The numbers for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are going to be monstrous when the tallies come in over the next few weeks. A sampling of Xbox 360 gamers who'd picked up Modern Warfare 2 on launch day last night suggests Activision and Infinity Ward's shooter is going to shatter records. As I shut down the game around 3:00 a.m. PST last night, I scrolled to the bottom of the Xbox Live global leaderboards. After nearly 30 minutes of scrolling down (there's no "see the bottom of the list" option and the list scrolls at a mind-numbing pace), the magic number appeared:
2.35 million.
There are apparently tens of thousands of players who have picked up Modern Warfare 2, popped into multiplayer for only a handful of seconds to a few minutes and racked up zero points in the process, but Infinity Ward's tracking data logged them anyway. The amount of players who have signed onto Xbox Live, if only to briefly check out multiplayer, was 2.35 million. That doesn't even take into account the many players (like me) who most likely are still engrossed in the single-player campaign.
This is just a isolated sampling taken on the first day of Modern Warfare 2's emergence onto the market, not to mention just one platform among three that Modern Warfare 2 is being sold on.
As soon as I can get my hands on the PlayStation 3 and PC versions, I'll check those numbers.

Just because MW2 has shattered sales records doesnt mean that it should be game of the year. The campain sucks... 4 1/2 hours long are you kidding me! the online is no big deal and from what i can notice, IW had played alot of KILLZONE 2 when making MW2! KILLZONE 2 online SHARTS on MW2! and the KILLZONE 2 campian took me longer than 4 1/2 hours to beat forsure. Uncharted 2 is by far at the top of the list for GAME OF THE YEAR... now thats a REAL sequel. and a REAL game is DEMONS SOULS ive got 60 hours on my first playthrough im 3/4 of the way done! soul level 115 yaaaaa son!

Modern Warfare 2 for Game of the Year!
Whats going on with the PS3 patch? I haven't heard anything about it.

Activision's servers went down for PS3 causes the multiplayer outage. Randolph d'Amore the quality assurance/customer service tech posted that on his twitter account and that Activision is working on a solution. This just gives me more time to play Uncharted 2 so it's no big deal to me.

I would love to see the numbers for the PC version. I did go to the Best Buy midnight opening and was amazed how many people in San Antonio bought one. I almost bought the PC VERSION myself and I resisted the temptation. The single player would keep me busy for, what, 3 days?

It is far easier and more profitable to sell to XBOX360 than to the oldbreed of PC-Gamers. With that being said, IW is hoping that the XBOX and PS3 users will be enough profit for themselves. The PC-Gamers have been regulated to the MMO market and IW is proving they dont need us to be called the most successful game of the year and the most profitable one either!
This situation bodes badly for us PC-Gamers! I dusted off my PS3 and noticed it can play games. I do have a Play Station 3 system. I bought it to play BluRays and I did buy GTA 4(never finished it) and Forced Unleashed (I finished it when I bought a new computer and my old one broke).

Wasn't their a news report just the other day on G4TV.com that "supposedly" said that players favored the PS3 for all upcoming 3rd party multiplatform games including MW2?
I think it should be corrected to say the Xbox 360 instead. :)

Likewise, for the PS3. If the Play Station 3 people are not careful, the next big game will include a water down PS3 version like the water down PC version of MW2.

ROD unfortunately they're referring to the bugged patch that hit PS3 MW2 and bricked the game online for people. It supposed to be fixed Friday. Way to go IW.

I know what you mean. I saw my kill/death ratio and my rank and I was sooooo pissed. I think it will get better once I learn the maps but after seeing that number my rank doesn't look bad at all.

Wrong hurting bucko. :( THE MW2 media blitz overload. This is a better machine than the Bush administration had, and again nobody questions, they just report... ALL MW2 ALL THE TIME. Egad.
