Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

For all of you Call of Duty crazies out there looking to kill some time during tonight’s nationwide midnight launches of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, you’ll be pleased to know that we’ve dedicated this post just to you, so that you can share your launch night event stories with all of us, either after the fact or right now as they’re happening.

So if you’re standing/sitting/lounging/whatever in front of your local participating retailer to get your hands on the first batch of legally sold copies of Modern Warfare 2, let us all know what you’re seeing, hearing, (smelling, if that’s the case), thinking, etc. as you’re standing in line, or keep those memories clear in your head until you can share them with us all tomorrow.

What are some of the nuttiest/funniest things you’ve seen so far tonight? Any nerd brawls? Any super sophisticated debates about video games as art? What city are you located in? Where exactly are you standing in line? What’s the weather like where you are? How long have you been waiting in line? What platform are you buying the game for? What other gaming-related midnight launches have you attended? Given that retailers like GameStop now offer release day deliver, why are you wacky enough to wait in line at such an ungodly hour? How does this launch event compare to previous ones you’ve been to? Do you prefer cake or pie?

If you have any particularly stellar pictures of launch event happenings or you just want to share something especially fascinating about your time in line, feel free to email me at Jake@g4tv.com.

Have fun, and good luck everyone!

I was standing in line at wal-mart in the midst of a cat 1 storm headed our way. Most every shop (restaurants, convenience stores, etc.) closed early to get away from the imminent doom of a tropical depression, but wal-mart stayed open.

So there was a line 50 deep when I arrived, and it ended up going 200 deep before the night ended. I was right behind a bunch of marines that were talking about real life war experiences, and comparing them to Modern Warfare moments. It was actually kinda cool.

    My story cannot be beat.

I was standing in line outside Toys R Us in CT, Novemeber 2006, waiting for my Nintendo Wii. I was about 100 people back. Around 7:00AM, the managers and employees started to sneak into the store. Then I realized...most people ahead of us did not pay in full for their Wii's, let alone pre-order it at all. This ticked me off, thinking "Why should I get my Wii after people when I'm one of the few in line that actually took the steps to assure I was getting mine?"

I called inside the store, and asked to speak to the manager - I put on a "I am furious" tone. I told him me and my friends' names, and argued my case. 10 minutes later, he and 3 employees plus a security guard approached the line and said "Which one of you is Adam ___?" I raised my hand and pointed to my friends; he said "Follow me."

Me and my friends followed the manager to the front of line, and thru the entrance, leaving everyone behind. As expected, the rest of line was screaming, swearing, and yelling at us. We must have been one of the first wii owners in the country. We walked out with our Wii's and Tickle-Me-Elmos high in the air, and screamed "SUCKERS!"

    we ran for our lives

Apparently, you had to get your receipt numbered before midnight. I was there at 11:15. i got to the front of the line at 12:30 and the guy there asked what my number was and I said what are you talking about? He said you had to get a number before midnight and that i had to go to the back of the line. Lets just say i yelled profanity very load and the police officer was ready to take over the situation. I got my copy, but i lost my ride home so i had to bike 5 miles back because i had to get back in line.

    @Gamestop btw.

Went to Futureshop in Toronto. Lineup was a lot smaller then I had anticipated mainly 20-30 people. There was one lunatic hockey dad who was pissed off that he couldn't get a PS3 and XBOX360 version of prestige for you his spoiled kids. He was out cussing and whining about having to work in the morning. He was also insulting the store which I found amusing.

Also there was another douche outside who was trying to scalp the Hardened edition for $200 the crowd just look at him like he was an idiot. Line went fast and I picked up the last prestige edition for xbox 360.

    The game is awesome.

Went to GameStop, there were a couple hundred people who preordered there, not knowing if I was going to be able to score a copy, I walked over to the Wal-Mart across the street....there were only 7 people in line! Needless to say I got my copy before they did. The employees also handed out the covers with the developer signatures, MW2 posters and free Monsters to everyone in line. I would call that a success!!!!! Now to go kill some civies and go all Oscar Mike on them!

I pre-oredered but waited until the morning to pick it up. The weather dropped by mid-night...btw the EB where I go is in a stripmall and there was litereally a 50 meter long garbage left from the crowd. The store also opened earlier then the other stores, so I wonder how mad they other shop owners will be when they arrvied to garbage in front of their store...hahhaha

Went to Walmart at 11pm,in Williston, ND, where only 25 people were in line when I got there. Shortly after that about 75 more people showed up to buy the game. Glad I got there when I did because I only had a 20 minute wait. Which isn't bad for getting there so late.

My friend and I pre-ordered at different gamestops. The line at his gamestop went out the door down to the gas station down the street, about 1/4 mile. Both of us got there right around midnight and decided to "race" to see who got their copy first. He won.

Got mine at Gamestop in Phoenix (Christown Mall). Two army recruiters had a table inside the store, recruiting people as they passed by the table to get their game. Pretty ingenious. There was probably over 100 people in line.

I didn't get to go get the game because my 360 is sill in the shop:(
I still went up to my local gamecrazy to see how the launch party went down. I saw some college kids outside wearing camo and fake helmets that were playing lazer tag outside. I guess if you can't get the game you can always get drunk and pretend your in the game.

I was a midnight launch - Alpharetta, GA
By no means a nerdy bunch, mostly collage drunks, High school senior types.
GamesStop had - 2 LAN stations going with 6 players each, inside people playing deathmatch (not team) on Modern Warfare 2, outside in trailer the had the old Modern Warfare setup, We played on MW1 best of 3 game of demolition, it was wild we won people watching a rooting cause game went 2 3rd game and our teams were trash talking and stuff, folks laughing and stuff.

    No pizza!

Got home 12:15AM, just tried out mutiplayer for hour and half and went to bed. Very nice.

i was standing in line at eb games, 40 minutes after opening waiting to grab my pre-ordered standard copy with $10 down (all special editions were gone already). people came out of walmart from across the parking lot and said that there was no line there and to just go. my buddies checked it out, and sure enough, no line at all. i ditched the eb games line, went to walmart, and grabbed a hardened edition. i just wish i knew about it earlier, before standing around for 40 minutes, listening to people drive by, yelling at us to either get a life, or bragging about their prestige edition while holding it out the window. that was my first and probably my last time going to a midnight launch.

Am I the only person who had this shipped by Gamefly early on Monday? It'll be here at 10am on Tuesday. Am I so pathetic that I need to stand in line and wait for it? No way!

Nothing too special from mine. I won a "special edition" poster from a raffle held at Best Buy. The poster is the cover of the game. Doesn't seem special at all, but whatever. The best part is when I enter the store, there were no PC copies to be found. I asked the clerk and he had to go around all the baracades to get my PC copy, towards the back of the "exhibit". he brought 5 copies to where the PS3 and Xbox copies were. I was the first customer to buy a PC copy. Here's hoping it will get its $60 worth, and here is also hoping they add dedicated servers soon.

    Very soon,
