Welcome to Morning Hangover -- an excellent way to start your day with the crew at TheFeed...no matter what you're recovering from. Every morning you'll hear musings from our editors and have the chance to share your thoughts on what's going on in the gaming world.

Activision: Modern Warfare 2 Could Be Biggest

There aren't many games that can get people to drag themselves into the middle of the night, but if the frenzy over broken street dates for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is any indication, Infinity Ward's shooter is going to bring people out in droves. I don't have to speak in the future tense, though, since it already happened. What's been your craziest launch experience? I've stayed overnight for my fair share of consoles (an experience I'm not looking forward to repeating anytime soon), but nothing too exciting happened. You sat. You were cold. You were tired. You got a ticket. You bought a console.

Tell us your crazy stories from the front lines of the biggest launches over the years.

My fondest memory was Halo 2. I showed up at 11:30 at a local gamestop turns out that gamestop had the highest pre-orders than any other in the States!! They had Microsoft execs giving away free schawg and food. They had a big screen showing nerdnation movies...(starwars) Let's just say I left my house at 11:15pmn got home at around 2:00am as big as the line was!!!

I live in the small area of Kitchener Ontario, (Canada for you USA folks), and in this land of bagged milk it seems that my small town doesnt have as much hardcore gamers as I originally thought.
It appears to be that only 3 people showed up to our malls midnight release. Not much, but I guess it happens.

i have waited in line for midnight releases with friends, but I never actually bought the game. I just wanted to hang out with friends because I had nothing else to do. Been for GTAIV (which I ended up buying at a later date), Halo 3 and Halo:ODST. All were good fun.
I don't know if anyone lives in the Toronto, Ontario area, but when Super Smash Bros. Brawl came out, it was blizzarding at the midnight launch. I refused to go, but a couple of my friends went. That's how hardcore some gamers can get. (The store is a good hour away. Probably longer when it was blizzarding)

My friend went to the GameStop in the mall for Halo 3 and we went with him. So rather than sit around in the line with him, we brought a big flat screen monitor, a GameCube, a bunch of laptops and then hijacked the whole main "living room" section of the mall. We rearranged the whole thing and set up our systems, invited over cute chicks passing by to play some Smash Bros Melee with us. We had crowds of bored "we came with our friend to a midnight launch" people crowded around us watching and cheering. It was pretty awesome.

Our mall (being one of the biggest and possibly the fanciest mall in Houston) is strangely happy to accommodate a mass hijacking of their space for almost unlimited amounts of time. Security only asks that we leave by midnight.

Working at Best Buy last night for the midnight release we were happy with the crowds.
There was only one customer that shocked me from the crowd.
He waited in line for maybe an hour or two.
I ask him which version he wants; PS3, 360, PC, regular, steelbook, prestige etc.
He asked for the DVD UP instead!
I had to ask him twice.
Since it was midnight he though he could get the pixar movie.
I asked my boss and he said "Yeah, go ahead get him it"

Only did it once and it was for Halo 2. I stood in line outside the mall to get my preordered copy of Halo 2. The line wasn't moving, so I went across the street and bought it at Toys'R'Us. No line at all! Used my preorder copy as a Christmas present.

Nothing too crazy, but there were a lot more people than I expected.. Then driving home I passed two more GameStops noticing they were all pretty packed full of people as well.
