Welcome to Morning Hangover -- an excellent way to start your day with the crew at TheFeed...no matter what you're recovering from. Every morning you'll hear musings from our editors and have the chance to share your thoughts on what's going on in the gaming world.

There aren't many games that can get people to drag themselves into the middle of the night, but if the frenzy over broken street dates for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is any indication, Infinity Ward's shooter is going to bring people out in droves. I don't have to speak in the future tense, though, since it already happened. What's been your craziest launch experience? I've stayed overnight for my fair share of consoles (an experience I'm not looking forward to repeating anytime soon), but nothing too exciting happened. You sat. You were cold. You were tired. You got a ticket. You bought a console.
Tell us your crazy stories from the front lines of the biggest launches over the years.

I bought Fallout 3 at midnight at a 24hr supermarket, it was funny because I was literally the only one there. I had to convince them that there was a game released that day.
I had went up an hour early as at the same store for the launch of GTA4 there were a few hundred in line for only about 50 games each for 360 and PS3.
To be honest I think I can wait a while to play MW2, don't get me wrong it looks great but I've got loads of half finished games I should really complete first.

My story cannot be beat.
I was standing in line outside Toys R Us in CT, Novemeber 2006, waiting for my Nintendo Wii. I was about 100 people back. Around 7:00AM, the managers and employees started to sneak into the store. Then I realized...most people ahead of us did not pay in full for their Wii's, let alone pre-order it at all. This ticked me off, thinking "Why should I get my Wii after people when I'm one of the few in line that actually took the steps to assure I was getting mine?"
I called inside the store, and asked to speak to the manager - I put on a "I am furious" tone. I told him me and my friends' names, and argued my case. 10 minutes later, he and 3 employees plus a security guard approached the line and said "Which one of you is Adam ___?" I raised my hand and pointed to my friends; he said "Follow me."
Me and my friends followed the manager to the front of line, and thru the entrance, leaving everyone behind. As expected, the rest of line was screaming, swearing, and yelling at us. We must have been one of the first wii owners in the country. We walked out with our Wii's and Tickle-Me-Elmos high in the air, and screamed "SUCKERS!"

10 p.m. rolled around and I posted my chair at the door of the local Fred Meyers in Soldotna , Alaska . A store employee was stowing shopping carts away as another gamer and I were sitting in our freshly folded out lawn chairs...asked us if , he could help us . I told him we were waiting for the midnight release and pointed to the BIG sign that had the game info. as the other gamer and I looked at each other and smiled . He had radioed in to see if we were correct ...I am sorry..you are right he says...as he goes on about his cart collecting...I sat outside in a first come first served line...for 2 hours...in 28 degree weather...only to go home..and game til 8 a.m. today...well worth the wait...like Xmas came early...way to go Activision and IW ....

I have been to plenty but my favorite one was for GTAIV. I put down the $10 deposit for mine 6 months before. When it came to release night, I was number 4 in line. Went to checkout, cashier told me I was paid up. I just smiled and walked away with my $90 deluxe edition: I only paid $10 for it. :D
The Ghostbusters release party here was great too. Huge party, game cave, food, portable projector and screen showing the movie, contests, raffles. Tons of fun.

The only midnight launch I've ever been at, was for the Dreamcast. It was awesome, because it was at a Gamestop inside a mall. No waiting out in the cold for me! I don't recall my exact position, but I believe it was in the 20s somewhere. I recall having a decent conversation with some guys about RPGs. There was a delay at one point, because the manager was late to open the shop. To make up for it, they gave us free cans of Pepsi and leftover popcorn. Afterward they had tournaments for Power Stone, Soul Caliber, Hydro Thunder, and Ready 2 Rumble. I entered the Power Stone tournament and got 2nd place.

I did a midnight release for Brawl. It was actually pretty sweet, they set up a system with Brawl and had a tournament while the line was waiting. It was really sweet to see people play it the first time before it was technically released.

My buddy and I waited for 3 hours in our local mall for the Halo 3 release, and we were like 20th in line when we showed up at 9. We got hungry and ordered a pizza and a two liter of soda to our spot in line, and they actually delivered it. Everyone just watched as we sat on the floor in the mall and ate pizza, it was pretty dope.

Yeah.... i've done three or four and one more coming up soon (Assassin's Creed 2 & LFD2). But i did a four hour wait at best buy for Uncharted 2, a two and a half hour wait at Gamestop for Bioshock for PS3 and then another four hour wait outside a gamestop for COD Modern Warfare 1.

I work at a store that had a midnight opening and haven't played the game yet. I was so tired I forgot the pick up my copy before I left at 2 in the morning. Only thing a did was sniff the inside jacket. It smelt good.

Definitely the PS3 launch. The console launched at midnight on a Friday. We (me and my co-workers) lined up outside the PlayStation Store in SF on Wednesday night around 7:30pm. We kept the line up in shifts for the next 29 or so hours. It was painful.

hmm it would have to be when halo 3 came out. Everyone was going nuts, and the first guy who got his legendary edition walked to his car with a look of triumph. Then in the haze of his victory he decided to do a burnout in the parking lot...but apparently the cops wanted their copy of halo 3 also lol. He got pulled over not even 5 seconds later. That is one expensive legendary edition...

lol My favorite one was last night actually, we were standing around outside of the gamestop, and it's right across the road from a walmart, and some dude in a mustang was trying to show off and pulled out of his parking spot at the walmart and did a burnout, with a little puff of smoke, and then was just driving around in circles in the parking lot, and then all of a sudden, the 3 police cars that were parked over at the gamestop started moving out of the gamestop parking lot and sped over to the walmart to catch him, we all had a good laugh at that.

I'm getting mine from Amazon.com, with release day delivery; should be here anytime now. The whole waiting in line thing is fun, but you can t beat the $20 gift card Amazon was giving out. For that, I ll wait until the UPS guy comes today instead of getting it at midnight.

Last night was cool,my first midnight release, we were the first in line. My highschool is right down the street. So me and my 4 buddies got in my truck, got some food and Monsters. So, we just chilled in the store talked to the guys in there.(They were cool)And watched iPod movies. Around 9:30 the line got HUGE.
We were there for 9 hours. My friend yelled out" Have fun waiting in line". Oh yeah,i live in Chicago so it was cold. Then I did a doughnut in the parking lot, almost hitting a car.LOL

Never get your console fixed by Asurion they suck. I wait all night long for the prestige edition on PS3 last night and, everything worked fine for a while. I go to bed and wake up wanting to play the game and my PS3 gets the yellow light of death with my game in the console. I bought it on XBOX 360 this morning, I hear Gamestop will give you 40 dollars for MW2, So once I get my game out of the PS3, will buy a new PS3, I mean because I bought the prestige edition and I loves my Call of Duty!

During the 360 launch I was the second person on line at a store that got nine consoles. At about 1am a girl showed up and actually started offering...."favors" for a position in the first nine spots. She was denied nine times. I guess nothing can get between a gamer and his new hardware.

I was at the midnight release of Borderlands. I bought is and pre-ordered the God of War Collection for a total of $68. They charged my card 3 times. Borderlands is a good game, but i don't want to be almost $200 for it. Fortunately I will be getting my money back soon. Unfortunately, i needed that money a week ago.

The worst launch story i have.... is when the 360 was launched.
I sat outside target in November from 12 - 6 AM.... 3 different employees insured me that they had 8 premium consoles... I was number 8 inline.
6 roles around they hand everyone there numbers.... they tell me they only have 7 premium consoles. i couldn't afford to get a game, console, and hardrive.... also i refused to pay $100 for only 20 gigs.
So i ended up not getting a 360 at all :( had to wait almost a year before i could snag one.
looking back on it i should have gotten a "core" console and just sold it on ebay.

Grabbed mine last night. I really should have just waited today instead of sitting outside in an upcoming tropical storm. I did get a hardened edition with the 2-24 multiplayer misprint on 360 ( I wonder how many people got the same, just want a quick check to see if yall got this as well).

The best memory wasn't mine directly, but indirectly.
My then-girlfriend was hanging at my apartment when she got a call from her sister that shxt was blowing up at home. She took off at like 9pm which sucked, but I understood. Woke up the next morning, went to a couple of early classes, then came home to an XBOX 360 with all the peripherals and several games. This was the day of launch. WTF?! YES!
Turns out that she and her sister had waited outside all night in the cold to secure a spot in line until Target opened their doors in the morning. Sweet surprise!
Now I'm married to her. Girl of my dreams! ;-)
