Medal Of Honor

Electronic Arts has been quiet about the Medal of Honor franchise for a while, allowing Call of Duty to remain the leader in that genre of the shooter. That's going to change soon, however. On an investor call today, EA Games label head Frank Gibeau teased a "revitalization" of Medal of Honor to be revealed soon. No other details were revealed about this new take on Medal of Honor.

Gibeau said the company's approach to Need For Speed kicks off a new initiative to "revitalize blockbusters" experiencing creative stagnation. EA considers the Need For Speed experiment a success and will extend the concept not only to Medal of Honor, but other "core IPs" from EA.

Gibeau made it sound like we would hear about these in 2010.

I stopped playing Medal of Honor after they left rising sun in a cliff hanger and never released it's sequel. Things like that piss me off

Medal of Honor does have the honorable reputation of being a very excellent FPS, especially in the WWII genre. It was one of the early FPS's as well as one of the first to take place in an authentic WWII environment. THey did a fine job during the their earlier entries. Its because of them that Call of Duty stepped into the Picture.

But then their later titles after Frontline were mixed. Rising Sun was great but had strange moments happen in the game. It was considered successful but at the same time, a disappointment. Even worse, the story ended on a cliffhanger and a sequel was never released for it. Later on, European Assault came out with a new premise of a more open-ended mission structure- and it worked! I had a lot of fun. THe graphics were a little subpar but the sound and excitement was still there. There were some problems such as the sheer difficulty in the final mission and the arade-like elements such as revive packs and health bars, health bars for the enemy german operatives your send to eliminate, and adrenaline rushes that render you invincible with unlimited ammo. but it was still fun.

THen it was quiet for awhile and people were looking more to Call of Duty the Medal of Honor, citing the team lost its touch. THen THey released Airborne. Airborne was and still is an amazing WWII shooter. Vanguard is ok but it actually makes its oldest cousin, Frontline, look much better.

I think the trouble comes with competion with Call of Duty. In addition, theres been a number of gamers that is sick of WWII.

I honestly must say that I would lvoe to see WWII games keep coming. People continue thinking of it as just a genre. THis is a genre crafted from something that actually happened in human history. In the 4 yrs the U.S was involved, more battles and conflicts were fought then at any other war in all of recorded history. Thats a fact. So they will always be being made. As long as they stay away from being generic and bring forth another new side of the war, it'll always stay and im happy for it. All of the WWII games are different in every way. Some see them as shooter but the theater you play in is different. Its something that if you can think about, gives you a sense of what really happened during that time. I, for one, learned a lot from them. No kidding.

For Moh, I would have to say they need to move onto other theaters of war such as The Korean War, the lebanon conflict, the Panama Invasion in the 1980's, Desert Storm, or maybe some fictional modern telling. THey should also emphasize aerial, naval, and ground combat.

But theyre biggest break through just may be Vietnam, which lasted from 1957-1973 i believe, making it the longest and bloodiest jungle war ever fought. If you throw in a multiplayer and a powerful, lengthy story, it would be HUGE!

I still have faith in EA and MoH. I remember how dynamic Frontline was. I still have it too. I really hope that a new installment becomes a reality.

I would like to see them do a game about WWII, or something new. Honestly, WWII provides some nice story and great action, but it has been done to death.

What they need to do is make it an RTS, but with a twist. Basically, there is one "leader" person who moves the troops into battle and once they get into battle, players from that team battle the other team and who ever wins the match, wins the battle and don't get destroyed.

I liked Modern Warfare 1 and pre-ordered Modern Warfare 2. I welcome EA's attempt in trying to surpass Modern Warfare; If we don't have companies trying to surpass it we will end up with a juggernaut franchise taking over one genre without any competition (i.e. Madden).
I do hope these companies would put their ideas together and create a Call of Duty game where you can steal helicopters and have a grappling gun to swing across buildings.
I played the last Medal of Honor and wasn't too impressed. Hopefully they have better luck on the next one.

On the final note: If any Medal of Honor creators are reading this hopefully you can make the next Medal of Honor game based off the Revolutionary War. Looking to shot some redcoats.
