Nintendo Talks Wii Zelda, The Existence Of Wii HD And Modern Warfare 2

Soon, Nintendo will drop its biggest game of the year, New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It's being released in the days after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 comes out, widely expected to be one of, if not the, biggest releases of the year (Activision's CEO said it could be the most impressive launch in any entertainment medium -- ever). Nintendo disputed that point in little bit a Gametrailers TV interview with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.

Files-Aime believes once the holiday dust has settled, New Super Mario Bros. Wii will outsell Modern Warfare 2, if you look at a single platform's sales (i.e. Modern Warfare 2's sales on Xbox 360).

"I'll take that bet," he joked.

In the same interview, Fils-Aime also addressed other rumors regarding Nintendo. It's been long rumored Nintendo will release an updated version of the Wii with support for high-definition visuals. Despite the head of Nintendo's R&D division recently telling investors that "moving to HD appears to me a natural flow," Fils-Aime outright denied the existence of the theorized "Wii HD."

"I don't know how forcefully we can say there is no Wii HD," said Fils-Aime.

Lastly, the Nintendo head honcho briefly discussed the next Zelda game. Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed the game's existence at E3 this year, but Fils-Aime wasn't willing to commit to a 2010 release date for Link's next adventure, but he didn't rule it out, either.

“We haven’t committed to Zelda for 2010," he said. "That’s what he [Miyamoto] said. So we’ll see how that continues to develop.”

What makes me laugh the most about COD MW2 sales ,is sure without a dought it will out sell NSMB wii in a day.But has'nt anybody figured out by now as well as Halo 3 that theses title don't really have long term sales.Just go to your local gamestop months after MW2's release and you'll see a boat load of copies in the bins. The only way shooters ever have long term sales is if theres a GOTY edition release 8 months later.NSMB wii has a more universal and far greater long term sales appeal.Just look at the DS sales of NSMB for farther proof. As far as I'm concered COD is dead anyways because of the skrewing of the PC owners with the no P2P system. So playing NSMB wii with my niece vs playing a defunked PC version of MW2 has defiently a greater value.

It's funny how people doubt that New Super Mario Bros. Wii won't outsell MW2 on one console, but it's highly possible and here's why. Watching the entire GameTrailers video, Reggie says if you give Nintendo till the end of January. Mario will outsell MW2.
Considering that the Wii has been outselling both consoles for the past few holiday seasons. The likeliness that New Super Mario Bros. Wii will skyrocket in sales during the holiday season is more than likely. So finding New Super Mario Bros Wii on every kids' Christmas list and parents discovering a new Mario game for the Wii. It's a given that New Super Mario Bros. Wii will outsell MW2.

Now most likely MW2 will outsell Super Mario Wii in the 1st week, but given Reggie's bet. Super Mario Wii will surpass MW2 sales on one console.

I agree the consumer does matter. However, it seems the industry norm is to ignore the consumer and go for the fast easy buck. Thus, my rant and rave on my post.

In reality, game companies need to earn our respect and earn our dollar. We should not just throw money away at them. However, this game is banking that YOU (The Consumer) are willing to throw away money on a cheap game that does not cater to the gamer or the audience.

Take IW and Modern Warfare and the PC gamer. Microsoft and many game companies believe the PC-Gamer is a MMO market. However, RTS and Simulations (and the 'mech FPS/Simulator) are a type of game that are traditionally for the PC and make poor XBOX and PS3 and Console games. Many will argue the FPS is a game which is very strong in both the console and the pc - making it one of the few games with the largest potential market value.

More recently, Best Buy hosted an online chat between gamers and Mackey McCandlish and Ryan Lastimosa from Infinity Ward. The floor was open for questions, and the pair systematically crushed any hope that the PC version of the game would even attempt to make gamers happy.

What will the max amount of players per map be for PC multiplayer on IW.net

    Vince-IW: 9v9
No matter how good a connection the host has, no matter how powerful your dedicated server was, the maximum number of players online is 18. If you have a larger clan, you're out of luck.

kaRMa: Please give me a direct answer. On the PC version. Are all games hosted by players, and is there a five-second delay when host migration is in effect?

    Vince-IW: yes.

Why is this a problem? Because Infinity Ward also revealed in the chat that the game will pick who hosts. You have no control over it. If the host leaves, there will be a five-second delay while the game picks the next best host. Players have no way of controlling who is hosting, and of course we know there will be no dedicated servers.

You can't opt out of hosting. If the host quits, the game stops for five seconds while the next one is selected by the software. This is good for gamers... somehow.

Moriarte: Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?

Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.

This is the amount of work that went into the PC version: you are given the ability to use a mouse, to use text chat, and to adjust graphical settings. Are your fears now put to rest?

We thought the lack of dedicated servers was bad, but now we can add the lack of console commands, the inability to have a say in who hosts the game, a lengthy pause while the game migrates to a new host if the currently selected host quits, no leaning, no option to record matches, and no way to kick or block trouble players, hackers, or cheaters.

You have to wonder if there are any actual PC gamers working at Infinity Ward, as it will be a challenge to find any member of the PC gaming community that will stand up for any of these omissions, not to mention all of them bundled together. At launch, this will be one of the most locked-down, inflexible, and gamer-unfriendly game ever created.

The Modern Warefare petition is a joke. WHO CARES if they dont get my money. When PS3 and XBOX users are buying the game and some users are buying the game for BOTH SYSTEMS?

Viva El Computer (yea yea spanish and french)

Nintendo doesn't give a crap about the faithful hardcore fans out there anymore. I moved into Microsoft's and Sony's pockets a long time ago, and haven't ever regretted it. Nintendo is a money grabbing machine. In interviews and press conferences they always seem to give us a chart that says "OMG look how much we sell!" but I couldn't care less when the majority of games are basically as good as free internet flash games. 360 and PS3 have awesome communities, and that's where I plan to stay for a long time.

You guys.. heres how i look at it.. This new super mario bros.. is like "the 1 game" that nintendo fans have to buy.. because all the other games released recently for the wii have SUCKED.. so OF COURSE a crap ton of people are gonna buy it.. and yes there are MORE Wii owners WORLDWIDE then 360 owners.. I would also take this bet..

BUT.. if the bet was "Which game has the most reply value for single player and Multiplayer, and which game will be played more often and longest, I would go with MW2 .. because after 1 month, Everyone is still gonna be playing MW2 multiplayer, and people are gonna get bored of the Mario game, lolol.. its just how its gonna be, xD

I say it's very possible plus he didn't say just the US. If it is worldwide there is no doubt it can easily. The Wii has a MUCH bigger install base in the US and even bigger worldwide with 7M more units more then the 360 in the US and 8 times the units in japan. Also realize 2 of the BIGGEST sellers this decade are wii games (wii pay and wii fit) and like SCM13 says new super mario appeals to everyone and not just adults like Modern warfare 2 does being M rated.

    I would take that bet.

I have both NSMB Wii and MW2 reserved, but as much as I hate to say it, New Super Mario Bros. doesn't stand a chance outselling MW2 this year. Maybe in the long run it will, but there is just too much hype around MW2 for it to do it this year.

Doesn't matter at all guys. WoW has already outsold every other game, and starcraft2 will outsell every other game including WoW. Blizzard has grabbed the gaming industry by the nuts and isn't going to let go.

OK I'll say it. Most of the people who are buying CODMW2 could care less about Super Mario Brothers. I know I don't care. Super Mario Brothers could very well outsell MW2, no doubt. Will that make me turn on my Wii for the first time in 2 years? No. It isn't about the graphics it's just that I'm so excited for MW2. I really don't care for Mario.

lol these people are forgetting who Nintendo is.

Mario was created what 20 yrs ago? And Soap MacTavish and the other MW chars were created in......2007.

You honestly think that a game whose momentum started in 07 would out sell a game whose momentum started 2 decades ago and is still growing strong? You know how idiotic that sounds..?

Yes MW 2 will outsell Mario the 1st week probably, but that's it :D

Seriously? Ok, MW2 looks to be a fantastic shooter! No doubt.. But it's a shooter... Shooters start off on fire then quickly sales drop.. Once again a shooter... All shooters age horribly.. Some less than others but still they age quickly.. Take Halo for instance.. Horrible shooter now.. Seriously... Don't believe then compare it to say MW1.. Halo just seems tacky in comparison... Honestly, Super Mario Bros doesn't have that effect... Sure graphics looks somewhat funny but still real fun.. Remember, this is a game that came out over 20 yrs ago.. 10 yrs from now nobody will even want to buy MW2.. 10 yrs from now there will be plenty of sales still with New Super Mario Bros.. It's just a pattern with Nintendo.. It's not at all as far fetched as most would think... I'm getting both games! More excited for New Super Mario Bros wii though.. I have waited for a game like this for well almost 20 yrs. lol..

I would not put it beyond Nintendo to say that New super mario bros will outsell Mordern warfare 2. Before you Cod fanboys explode let me explain, who would have thought 3 years ago when these systems were just launching that today nintendo would be ahead especially after being the underdog for almost the entire GCN era. One word of wisdom i don't know what they're paying Miyamoto but the man works magic, further more Fils-Aime would not have said that lightly. Trust me if it's one thing that everybody's favorite japanesse company can do it's miracles.
