Let’s say you own a copy of either Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and/or Assassin’s Creed on either the PlayStation 3 and/or the Xbox 360. With the impeding releases of highly anticipated sequels to both titles, it appears that you have a rather difficult decision to make, namely: Which version of said sequel are you going to buy?
The reason I ask is that OTX’s GamePlan Insights recently told Gamasutra that a surprising percentage of gamers who purchased COD4 and/or AC for the Xbox 360 have said they plan to buy PS3 versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and/or Assassin's Creed II, respectively. Fifteen-percent of gamers who own a 360 copy of AC said they will be picking up a PS3 copy of its sequel, while just 7 percent who own a PS3 copy plan to buy the sequel for the 360.
OTX didn’t provide any figures with regards to Modern Warfare 2, but OTX said the percentages were similar to those for ACII. In light of this data, analyst Nick Williams believes, “The PS3 seems poised to shift the ratio of Xbox 360 to PS3 sales for most major multi-platform releases in its favor among dual owners.”
The fact that there are more PS3’s in living rooms now compared to when the first installments in these franchises were released might account for the MW2 shift, given the game’s significant multiplayer component. But Assassin’s Creed II is single-player only, so what could be causing so many gamers to choose the PS3 version over the 360 version?
It might very well be that gamers who didn’t want to shell out the cash for a PS3 two years ago decided to pick up a 360, and then when AC and COD4 came out, those were two massive games, so they bought them. But now, thanks to the price drop, those people who originally wanted a PS3 have been able to buy one, and buying games for your shiny new system is a commonly held attitude.
From a more industry-based perspective, the shift could be attributed to the way ACII was presented at this year’s E3, and the way the game has/will be marketed. During E3, Ubisoft used Microsoft’s press conference to show off Splinter Cell: Conviction, while it used Sony's press conference to showcase ACII. It’s hard to say exactly what kind of impact this had on gamers’ perceptions of ACII, it would be unwise to think it hasn’t influenced some percentage of gamers who paid close attention to the biggest gaming event of the year. Also, as GamesIndustry.biz reports, Ubisoft has revealed that it made a marketing deal with Sony earlier this year to have television ads for ACII feature only the PlayStation 3 logo. Given the surge in the number of PS3’s flying off store shelves these days, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that we'll be seeing more and more ads for multi-platform games flashing the PS3 logo at the end of them moving forward.
Ultimately though, with the hard data concerning those 15 percent and 7 percent of gamers that OTX’s research highlights, it’s hard to say just how significant or widespread this shift from one console version of a game to another really is. However, if it is happening as frequently as this data suggests, then perhaps we’ll be finding out much more about it very soon.
What’s your take on all of this? Are you one of those people who are picking up a PS3 version of one of these games over the 360 version? Why the change? And if you can refrain from dragging this discussion into mindless fanboy-crazed territory, you’ll get 107 gold stars.

Personally, I don't see why ppl would favor the ps3 over the 360 when it comes to multiconsole releases since historically the ps3 versions have had a higher tendency of glitching of some sort.

I always buy games for my 360 no matter what. Mostly for gamerscore but i also like the remote better

I bought MW1 for both ps3 and 360. The only problem is I had problems playing online with friends on the ps3 version. MW2 will be a 360 only purchase. Only to the fact that I have more friends that play regularly on 360. I do however prefer the PS3. I use it 90% of the time. Downloads, movies, and all single player multiplatform games. The shift may occure, and I hope it does. I want to see Natal fail and PS3 knock 360 to last place. It's just something against Microsoft and paying to play online.

my theory all along has been PS3 for single player, X360 for Multi.

possibly because people belive the ps3 has better graphics do to subliminal messaging saying that it does as well as the blu ray hd factor. the only real reason hd dvd is not sold anymore is because blu ray has a cooler name i have a ps3 just for blu ray now but i ujse my xbox for gaming so i am going to buy mw2 for xbox and maybe get ac2 when i have the money if xbox had betgter advertising more it would be differnt but there commercial suk really bad and they dont have a lot of releases that are exclusive compared to the ps3 but ps3 has contracts for some games expiring soon as well as microsoft the truth is they use differnt technology but pretty much are the same in evryway possible so sales change who cares in a while evrery one will probably have multiple consoles anyway whether it be a wii and ps3 or a will and xbox which alot f people already have or a ps3 and xbox i dont care but wow stop statrting flame wars with these articles they gett rrod all excited

here's my thing, its crude but it works (giggity): if i buy a multi-platform game (Wii-included games excluded), and i have an at least good experience on that platform, its NO question: i WILL pick up the sequel for that same console, even if every review i read says that it will perform better on the other console (Sessler reviews included (: ). i've had every COD available on the 360 since COD 2, and Bioshock for the PS3. I have had great experiences on all afore-mentioned games, so i will be getting MW2 for 360 and Bioshock 2 for PS3. It just seems like tradition to me (:

Out of all my gamer friends 2 have a PS3 and the other 11 have 360's and some have Wii's.

Im Gettin Both For My PS3

my guess is its exactly what you said--people that have a new PS3 are eager to buy games for it to build up the PS3 library. we are talking about people that have both so all the fanboy crap is completely irrelevant to this story.
One thing that I find really interesting though is the marketing deals to flash one console or another's logo at the end of a TV spot. Xbox has clearly and constantly led in that area. The uninformed consumer would guess that 90% of multi-platform games are Xbox exclusives just based on the "Xbox--jump in" at the end of every commercial. I assume this is costing them big money, but I hope that Sony starts to battle on this front because my guess is that Xbox is getting a good return on that marketing investment and Sony needs an even bigger piece of the multi platform pie to continue this roll they seem to be on.

Even if I had both consoles I would always get the Xbox 360 version, multiplayer game or not.
Why? Party Chat.

I will only be picking up MW2 for PS3....I originally bought AC for the PS3 on release day and found it to repetitive even though the story was good. So, I'll rent AC2 before I try to give them my money again.

I own both consoles...happy with both (ignoring my lone RROD experience), but I always lean Sony. Maybe because it's black and sleek, maybe because they've been in the gaming world longer, but overall I'll just always prefer the dualshock and will never forgive MS for the bastion of garbage that was the original Xbox controller.
My multiplatform decision making is usually based on A) Exclusive DLC B) Genre. When it comes to FPS', I usually go with 360 since most of my fellow multiplayers are on XBL and most don't own a PS3. Plus the 360 controller gives you a bit more of the "tightness" you need in a shooter. For most other games, specifically sports, I always go with PS3.
I'm getting MW2 on the 360. Any real gamer with OCD will never switch platforms mid-franchise.

I had COD4 on my 360, but when I pick up MW2 I'm pretty sure I'll be getting it on my ps3. I recently purchased a Japanese white dualshock 3 so I need to keep breaking it in. Plus I just love my ps3...woo.

i choose where there's less lagers and glitchers, imma go with the PS3 on this one, ive notice the 360's leaderboard with players of -124235238943285938532905 at the top of the list even though they played only one game ha haa
DarkKenzu
I bought MW for the 360 because i didnt have a PS3 because of its price. I bought a PS3 about 2 months before the latest Price Cut and the Slim came out and am now going to get MW2 for the PS3. Simply because my experience with both consoles lead me to believe the PS3 is SUPERIOR and I want to support it as much as I can.
Luna_Saisho
My only problem with that story is that the new PS3 isn't all that shiny. ^_~
Utmost_NutsZo
I have a PS3 and will probably get a 360 in the next 3-4 months.
My general rule is basically that I'll get everything on the PS3 and use the 360 for exclusives.
