Given the massive launches of several high profile sequels over the coming weeks, it’s fitting that LittleBigPlanet developer, Media Molecule, is speaking openly about having very little interest in creating a flat-out sequel to its wildly popular PlayStation 3 platformer.
When asked about the developer’s interest in developing a new LBP as opposed to continuing to support LBP with DLC, producer Martin Lynagh told Critical Gamer, “I think what you’ve seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that’s the way it’s going to continue.”
According to level designer Danny Leaver, a straight up sequel would “fragment the LBP community,” and “That’d be the most countrerproductive thing you could do I think.”
It’s refreshing to see a developer take a firm stance against the kind of sequel-for-sequels-sake attitude that shows up so often in gaming these days, and standing behind their initial vision in such a clearly gamer-oriented way. And I guess if the developers are able to release updates that continue to push the engine in new and creative ways then I don’t see any problem with the game not receiving a true sequel for a while.
What do die-hard LBP fans think about continual DLC releases vs. a sequel?

MS sure knows how to get 60 dollars for an expansion to a boring trilogy.!
My god, you are a certified ass.

Sony doesnt know how to do DLC.

It sounds almost as bad as a left for dead sequel.

I am for DLC, I see LBP disc as like a start up kit for the many possibilities in the game, downloadable add ons are all that's necessary to expand the game as long as the point is to get a sackboy across an obstacle course.

I love Little Big Planet, but I would prefer that they continue to release DLC vice a sequel. If Media Molecule would release more packages like they did with the Metal Gear packages (i.e. more levels with additional trophies to go after), then I think they'd do well for themselves. Also, in the near future we have water to look forward to. That'll change the game some - hopefully it'll add a few trophies too!

I think it's great that they're putting their time and money behind DLC. Now if only they could release the damn Water Kit DLC......
