Shigeru Miyamoto Talks Wii MotionPlus For Next Zelda

During a recent Q&A session in Japan, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto spoke briefly about the next Zelda title for the Wii, specifically relating to the inclusion of Wii MotionPlus controls, Wired reports. This isn’t the first time Miyamoto has spoken about this, but it never hurts to hear a little more about Link’s next adventure.

In response to the MotionPlus question, Miyamoto explained:

"We're implementing it so that players can feel like they themselves are holding the sword. In the previous Zelda (Twilight Princess) the targeting was based on the IR pointer. This time however, we'll be using MotionPlus for a variety of more convenient targeting systems that will allow for more pleasant gameplay."

"Pleasant" is exactly the word that comes to mind when I think of being able to have complete control over Link's sword-wielding arm. Joy MotionPlus? I think so.

The only thing I hate about Miyamoto is his lousy Wii Fit and Wii Music bull. Other then that, he makes the BEST games out there.

@ DAREALGUMMY i agree with you some people just don't understand that with speed comes mistakes. @jdc6305 have you never heard the saying "more haste, less speed" or did the windows vista fiasco teach you nothing. Take your sweet time nintendo, so long as it's quality that we're waiting for.

I dont care about how I swing my arms around I just want it to come out already. Zelda is one of the biggest reasons I still stick by Nintendo.

Well of course they can pump out games, they have the ability to release patches. The whole Guitat Hero Mono thing was handled with discs was it not? Nintendo HAS to make sure everything is working right without any major bugs. Sure I'd like to see a quality AAA title from Nintendo every few months, but I wouldnt want quality to be sacrificed for that reason either.

I don't get whats taking them so long. Some studios can pump out games on next gen hardware in half the time it takes Nintendo and the Wii isnt even HD. How come Naughty Dog has done 2 Uncharted games? Wheres mario cart 2? Smash bros 2? does Nintendo even make games anymore? Oh wait theres Wii music.

I really hope they don't finish this game and then hold it back for like a year or so. I have this weird feeling after seeing the footage at E3 that Nintendo has Super Mario Galaxy 2 finished and ready to go, but won't release it because they are releasing New Super Mario Bros. Wii this year.

I don't have a Wii and I've crossed to the Dark Side that is the Xbox 360, but Miyamoto is still like Jesus to me. If he had a say in how the company was to be run, I'm sure he would have objected to the tons of crapware that was allowed to tarnish Nintendo's good name. No matter how royally Nintendo screws itself, rest assured Mr. Miyamoto that your name will be untarnished.

    All hail Mr. Miyamoto

I agree 100% the day Miyamoto passes is the day Nintendo is gonna suck.

Man Myamoto, I can never say anything bad about you. You basically founded the video game culture. Mario, DK, Link, and Samus were the inspirations of all the mainstream games to follow in the past two decades.
Yes, we cannot say that there has been a Zelda game under your eyes that has ever turned out poorly. But that's just it.
I cringe so badly about what's going to happen once Myamoto passes away. I guarantee you, when that day comes, the quality of both Mario and Zelda games will probably plummet.

Don't believe me. Just look at what has happened to Disney after Walt kicked the bucket. They became this terrible money-hungary tycoon with no heart. Making Prince of Persia and buying out Marvel for no arbretary reason other than to make money.

seriously, does anyone doubt the quality of this game? Name a bad zelda game lol.

    Miyamoto delivers EVERY. SINGLE. TIME

i understand why people bash the Wii, but every competitor is missing out on the greatest developer of our time.

Mario Galaxy 2 and this zelda game will be the best games for Nintendo for a very long time.

The only game that tops Mario Galaxy is Uncharted 2.

I don't think Nintendo can afford to wait a couple years for the release of this new Zelda game. If they want to stay ahead of the game, like they've done so far with console sales, they have to start delivering quality software. Iwata admitted that Wii sales have stalled so they have to do something quick to keep the Wii from slipping. I for one am disappointed with the lineup currently available for the Wii. I hope Nintendo makes a good comeback soon.

It'll probably be 2010 before we even see a trailer the game might come out (now this is just my guess) around late 2010 or early- mid 2011

I will never look at the Wiimote the same way again if it became the handle of the Master Sword.

Yes that is a good thing.

I hope they develop the story of the game, with lots of exploration. That's the only compelling reason for me to buy Zelda games.

It better not suck. Twilight Princess was great... but I thought Ocarina was great and I hated Majora's Mask. The first one on NES was great, but I thought Adventure of Link was pretty lame. I just hope this isn't another crap follow up.

i would bet that this game is coming out right at the end of the wii's lifespan and be on both the wii HD and the wii with motion plus just like twilight princess was for the game cube and the wii.
