Sony Online Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast are teaming up for a new strategy title based on popular card game Magic: The Gathering. The PC version of this game will be available in early 2010 with a PlayStation 3 version to follow at some later day.
Overall, Magic: The Gathering – Tactics promises all the joy of the Magic card game without the hassles that come from actually leaving the house and going to the backroom of a hobby shop. The turn-based strat game features both single-player and online multiplayer modes, with plans for expansions, tournaments, achievements and leaderboards. Like its card-game brethren, Tactics will offer players the opportunity to expand their gameplay experience by buying booster packs to beef up their spellbooks. Thanks, Capitalism.
"By collaborating with Wizards of the Coast, we're able to combine the strengths of both companies to develop an innovative, online, 3D game based on an extremely popular IP," said John Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment in a statement. "We're going to be taking the Magic: The Gathering Multiverse places players have never seen."
Did you ever get sucked into Magic? Do you still play? Would you buy a PC or PS3 game based on the fantasy card favorite?
