Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Sets GameStop Pre-Order Record

Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is still a week away from being released, but it's already breaking records. As USA Today reports, the game has set a new pre-order record at mega-retailer GameStop. No official numbers or info on the previous record-holder was released, but I’m waiting to hear back from GameStop. I’ll keep you posted.

Looking ahead to the game’s release, the retailer’s executive vice president for merchandising and marketing, Tony Bartel, also predicts that Modern Warfare 2 will be "the biggest entertainment launch of all time.” The current record holder is Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto IV, which sold 3.6 million copies and brought in $310 million on launch day.

C all of Duty 4: Modern Warfare sold around 2 million copies in its first month of release back in 2007, so it will be interesting to see what kinds of numbers the sequel does, since, basically, it will have to sell around twice as many copies in one day as the previous game sold in its entire first month of release. That would be mighty impressive, but if there was one title this holiday season capable of pulling that off, it would be this one.

I don't know. Halo 3 and GTA 4 was pretty big. But if you would bet any title against those two - it would definitely be Modern Warefare 2.

Hell Yea It's CALL OF DUTY PEOPLE LOADS AND LOADS OF ACTIONS. Yes it will brek GTA Reord and it deserves it no ???????'s on that

I preordered it for PS3, I'm not going to mid-night release, work in the AM. I'll miss the free pizza. Anyway I'm not expecting MW2 to be better then Operation Flashpoint:DR or SOCOM Confrontation, so I'll play it casually.

I think it will have at least twice the numbers as call of duty 4. There's a larger consumer base for the major platforms and when call of duty 4 was initially released not as many people new of it's development as those do of Modern Warfare 2.

My gamestop is over 1100 alone in pre-orders. As far as the Army showing up I doubt they will be appearing in any Gamestop in the New England area. CODMW2 is going to CRUSH GTA IV with the preorder numbers already above 2.5 million.

Wow i did not see this coming, I thought lots would be pre-ordered but I was totally wrong....
I pre-ordered it like a week ago and I'm still anxious to get my hands on it. Nice work IW!!

i'm just saying its just another fps i play some but latly they just making way too many and getting lame now.those others games i said we different u dont see many like them do you? like god of war or ratchet or jack even how inventive uncharted is. but they all have puzzles and make u think some.all fps you dont think u just point an shot or actually its already point for you just pull the trigger.

I own all three consoles and love them all but that statement was pretty lame. The same could be said about any of the PS3's exclusives, really it could be said about any game on any current system. Uncharted didn't invent the 3rd person shooter, Rachet and Clank didn't invent the platformer, MGS4 didn't invent the stealth game(maybe MG did on the Nintendo), Resistance and Killzone didn't event the FPS. If it were "just another FPS" then it wouldn't be so popular. Try again.

Its just another first-person shooter..there are more games out for ps3 that we are buying.
but good for ya.ya will finally have something to play soon.call of duty is okay but its the same as any other shooter honestly just point a to point b with shooting getting there am i wrong?

Umm yes, by far.
@nightsnipe, only the PC version has servers, and there won't be that many PC users. The consoles work off of using players as a host, not dedicated servers like Bad Company

Anyway, I got a PS3 which means I'm not so dead thirsty for new games like our 360 friends.

These pre-order numbers are kinda lame, actually
