What kind of game is it?
It's a 3D platformer for the PlayStation Portable and PS2 featuring the PS2-era mascots Jak & Daxter. There's also an aerial component to the game, with combat and exploration elements. The J&D games were originally made by Naughty Dog for PS2, who have since been busy with Uncharted on PS3. Developer High Impact games is creating this original title.
Who's the Developer?
High Impact Games is located in Burbank, CA, and was started by former employees of Insomniac Games (Ratchet & Clank, Resistance) and Naughty Dog. Their previous two games were original takes on the Ratchet & Clank franchise: Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank.
What's the story?
In his hands-on preview, G4tv.com freelancer Joe Rybicki describes the plot of Lost Frontier:
"This time, they're adapting the Naughty Dog franchise Jak and Daxter to the small screen. In The Lost Frontier, our cartoonishly heroic duo finds themselves exploring the most distant areas of their world, where they discover the areas where the legendary Precursors stopped building the planet. With a new perspective into the inner workings of their world, they learn that the Eco -- the magical essence that flows through the world -- is dramatically out of balance. Their job, of course, is to restore it."
Multiplayer/Online?
Nope! Neither!
What'd we say?
Jason D'Aprile reviewed Jak & Daxter and gave it a score of 4/5:
"Camera issues aside, Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier's strength lies in its humor and comfortably engaging gameplay. The visuals are sharp, detailed, and colorful and the voice work is great. The story, level design, and characters reflect the original games’ clever playfulness, and this is definitely a worthy addition to the series. There's nothing astonishingly original here, but The Lost Frontier is simply a great platformer that lives up to the Jak legacy."

I love uncharted, its a great game and they did an excellent job making it. But, jak and dexter can take on rachet and clank anyday and destroy them. Naughty dog needs to make a new jak and dexter game for ps3, even if its only 1 game. Seeing what they accomplished with uncharted, i could see them making a jake game that is even better than uncharted 2. They should atleast tie of the series so its not so open to possibilities. It is a great series and a fantastic story that many people (like me) have loved since day one, just make us a true Naughty dog Jak game!

Anybody who knows me will tell you I absolutely love Jak and Daxter. It was the first game I ever owned for my PS2 which was the first console I ever bought on my own. But, The Lost Frontier seems more like a slap in the face than homage to a superb game series. NaughtyDog is not making it, the graphics look worse than Jak 3, Jak 2, and hell even J&D: TPL. Of all the videos I have seen the graphics look like crap. Also, the gameplay seems glitchy. Unless it is strictly PSP footage in which the PS2 has been upped to Jak 3 quality, I highly doubt I will be buying this. I love Uncharted as well, but I love J&D more, NaughtyDog needs to make a true sequel to the J&D series with the power of the PS3.

do they not know how much they could get if they released something like this one a console, cmon, i have never met a person who didnt love this game

It looks like they are abandoning the original story line. If you don't what I mean, it is a tad confusing because of all the time traveling. Basically Jak found out he was the legendary Marr who saved the world in the past, then at the end of Jak 3 he saved everyone, but there was a step missing. Because Jak is Marr, he needs to go back in time and save the world from destruction, basically what he was distend to do.
I was hoping Naughty Dog at least pasted off the script to High Impact, so they could make a game about what is supposed to happen next. I mean if they make this game live up to the Jak series then I am still happy, but it will be something that will always nag me at the back of my head.

Damn why do I have to have work after school today. As soon as I get out I am buying this game for PS2 to too play on my BC PS3. The Jak series was my favorite of the last generation consoles, so excited.
