DJ Hero DLC More Expensive Due To "Additional Work," Says Developer

DJ Hero

The currently announced downloadable content for DJ Hero will run you $3 per mix. By comparison, Guitar Hero 5's individual tracks cost $2. When I asked last week, Activision refused to comment on whether this pricing scheme would be applied to future DJ Hero downloadable comment, but an IGN interview with developer FreeStyleGames suggests that's the plan.

"There's additional work in the creation process of the DLC," said commercial director Chris Lee, "[such as] licensing multiple pieces of content and bringing in a professional DJ to mix the tracks."

Lee successfully dodges a definitive answer, just as Activision did. It's still possible the pricing for DJ Hero will change, depending on how consumers react to the first wave of downloadable content, but the "additional work" answer that Lee provides suggests a $3-per-mix future for gamers.

paing 3 dollars is cool wit me ill rather play a game with unique mixes than one i can just buy the cd and listen to it then get bored with it then dont want to hear it again so i love the game its best the music game to date and it has all cultures not just one (GH n RB)

Look at the cost od DLC for rockband that can be played by 4 different people on either RB1 or RB2. Now look at the cost of songs for GH3 - DJ Hero. I suppose they assume players payed 60 dollars for an "instrument" that you cant use for ANY other game, why wouldnt they be able to squeeze more money out of them? No thankyou, Ill stick with playing RB with multiple friends, not sitting alone playing DJ hero.

I don't see a problem with the price for the DLC....You kinda have to think about the fact of how much a song usually cost....$1 per song on iTunes right.....Mix 2 songs together and that makes your $2 then the team/person who programs the games for the mix which is another $1.....and they're not going to put a song on there for free because label companies/artists want to make that money too.....So $3 is OK with me.....But I have to agree....The game has been out for a week and it should of been included on the disc.

This game totally blows. I couldnt wait for it to come out. Even preordered at Gamestop. Was there at open last Tuesday. I will be there at open this Tuesday to trade in for something better. I thought this game would revolutionize music games forever. All they needed to do was to put a wheel of some sort on the guitar heros controller( maybe one that looks like a record) and you would have the game. It does have great music though. Dont know, just expected WAY MORE than an expansion to GH5!!!!

Yeah it takes a whole lot of work, that's why they already have some out there. Once again, they are milking the hell out of their consumers.

I'd say boycott, but I'm not missing out on COD:MW2, so Activision can pretty much do whatever the hell they want.

While they are 2 separate tracks, you have to question the viability of a (technically) new franchise that already sells for $120, and now has $3 DLC tracks. I'd like to think that a good new game will be successful, but I just don't know about this.

I can understand the price increase but GT5 costs $2 per song, thats a rip, it should be a dollar on GT5 and $2 on DJ Hero.

in case nobody noticed, the songs on dj hero are unique pieces of art, not just some cover song you'd find in other music games. If you want the goods, you gotta pay extra.

The pricing of the game and the DLC is directly related to the music genre this game appeals to. Hip-hop is a cash cow. From the music ,to the clothing and other things that fit this lifestyle. Take the example of the Nike air force 1. There is not a single add for these shoes however they sell like crazy because of their link to hip-hop. Fans of this genre support hip hop community with their wallets unlike any other (not to disrespect any other culture) and DJ hero is a clear attempt to tap into that wallet. Why does it cost more for a turntable and cross fader then it costs for GUITAR HERO, or ROCK BAND? I wonder how they're gonna explain the price drop when they realize this game isn't the cash cow they hoped it would be.

I do not have a big issue with the price. But doesn't it supposedly take extra time and money to create dlc for the Beatles Rock Band? And yet, dlc for that game is still 2 bucks.

I like getting paid for my hard work, and so do the developers of games. I don't see a problem in DLC pricing most of the time.

The way I read this is.

"Activision wants more money and they know you'll pay 3 dollars for additional DLC so we're going to charge you more"

Although when you think about it, it does cost more since its two tracks instead of one. But on the other hand, its Activision
