It seems that quite a number of Xbox 360 users over the past week or so have been booting up their console only to find that their Xbox Live accounts have been ban-hammered by Microsoft. Turns out the house that Gates built has finally decided to take its boot to piracy’s neck in the form of mass bannings. As a spokesperson explained to IGN:
"We have taken action against a small percentage of consoles that have been modified to play pirated game discs. In line with our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox Live community, we are suspending these modded consoles from Xbox Live."
So if you’re enjoying your illegal games on your modded 360, play on at your peril I guess. And if you are among those modders who have had their Xbox Live accounts banned, I’m sure you’ve learned your lesson and will never mod a console or steal a game ever again. Mission accomplished.
Anyone out there have their accounts banned recently? I'm not looking to round people up. I'm just curious to see how widespread the bans have been so far.

lol. Yes, I have gotten my xbox 360 banned from live. It was modded. But im not a completely bad person. I actually only played games I bought from the store. My mom bought the system for me and my dad. She bought it not knowing it was already modded. But We went on playing games on it. (Not Back-ups) I actually just got modern warfare 2 from play n trade and I played on it. At first there was a long update that restarted my system twice. Then I played for the whole afternoon. I came back from my friends ready to play some MLG when my console got E79. I turned it off. Turned it back on and it said " Your console has been banned from xbox live do to Violations of terms and use. Reasons for xbox 360 bans will not be given."

One of my friends got banned for getting CODMW2 early from a gamestop. When he called on the GS they told him that they didn't know and that it's MS's fault and MS basically said "Your screwed" to him.
He eventually got a used xbox from the GS but that was banned for having a flashed DVD drive (which he didn't know about) But since GS wouldn't take it back he kept it and is now burning games for himself which i think he is almost entitled to because he was labeled a modder for no reason.
I on the mean hand added a 3rd party Memory thing(so that i could keep my data while having space for other things) and was banned and then I flashed my drive to show MS who's really the boss...although I DO miss Live a little I never really played on it much because most players where total jerks.

to everyone saying that you have to buy another xbl subscription you are WRONG. just the console is banned. my console was modded for less than a month before i got banned, but in that time I got about 20 games. paying $2 a piece the price of the disc. Sales tax is 6% where i live making games $63.59. I saved 1231.79. so going to buy another console is not an issue. I also purchased 3 or 4 games at full retail price. so i will go purchase a new arcade version, transfer my gamertag, all my DLC and game saves. I still saved $800-$900. so buying one console a year for 200 and saving 4-5 times that on games is worth it i knew the risk before modding it, was it worth it yes. is it worth it to mod another new system yes.. .
since i have a ps3 i can just buy the games for it. the only games i plan on purchasing for the 360 are games i would like to play online. (which are little in numbers) and good exclusives. if i like a game that is available for both consoles and its worth buying i will buy it for the ps3 and burn it for the 360( not burn the ps3 version for the 360 for those who think thats what i meant).
for example why would someone buy the new madden everytime it comes out for $60 when its the same thing from the year before. with minor changes, is it worth another 60 bucks i dont think so. EA really screws people over with their sports games and NFS series. MS does ban in waves usually around oct or nov. I believe ms does their ban waves around this time of year to boost sales during the xmas season. not proven just my theory and a bunch of others. people complain about the ps3 online service. in reality its not much different. also to everyone who thinks all modders are cheaters this is not true. i understand both sides of the argument, but truth is MS is gonna make more money off of this, but guess what so is sony from people converting because of MS
HESH
i think its so stupid that there banding xbox live consoles. what are they doing thats harmful? i personally modded my xbox because i didn't want to spend 65 bucks on a game (it doesn't even cost them that much to make it.) And all those people that say. "i support Microsoft." yeah i support them too, i spend so much money on game add ons, tv shows, avatar cloths etc... and all i was doing was trying to play a cheaper game. well a big FU to Microsoft. thanks for banding me. now you can get even more money from people you selfish corporate bastards!

If Microsoft's master plan is to bring down this hammer to make the modders go buy replacement consoles I'm pretty sure it will backfire simply because of this little thing happening to our country right now called a recession. Even the mighty Microsoft isn't immune to losing a bundle of cash from all these banned consoles not paying their live dues anymore.
bigcbuddha
if they already started banning modded consoles will other people like lag switchers or something like that be next it makes me wonder

I have a modded xbox 360 and i havent been banned yet as long as you use lastest firmware and stealth patch you will be ok all u haters are just mad because you waste your hard earned money on outrageously priced video games, im pretty sure MS consist of all the thieves. I get my games for 5 bucks and if i do get banned you better know imma go right out and buy another xbox and yes re-mod it because all the money i save on games i could afford to buy a new xbox and not lose a minute of sleep over it, so stop crying and hatin on everyone who mods becuz i know you have downloaded songs and movies for free and thats the same thing. Stop saying how we are taking so much money from developers, have you seen the cars they drive? trust me they are doing just fine. You will never stop modders we r here to stay get used to it!

oh i almost forgot, major nelson; ive pitched my pennies so im ready!!! i will not buy new consoles so you can profit, my money will go to independent sellers. everyday people and usually in a lower tax bracket than any microsoft employee. let the hunt begin!

hi i mod my xboxes, thats right i have multiple xboxes and i did buy games origialy, but being realistic there are many things that prevent people from having the ability to buy the 60 dollar games that they want, not every one lives with there parents and for that matter have well off parents that buy them the games, others like my self are in the low income bracket, most people i know with modded xboxes are excactly like me they saved thier money and bought an xbox when they originaly were released and either rented or traded games, old games. i owned my console for 2 years and owned only 2 games, they were not in my budget, rent, bills, car payments, food , gas had more prioity, hence i never really got to enjoy my xbox expirence. one day i was so frustrated with the economy that i looked into modding as a way to provide my self some entertainment at a low cost, and its not like its very hard to mod the xbox all the tutorials are out there. so i modded my xbox and since then( a year ago) ive paid for xbox live one year , bought microsoft points, bought a second xbox and an extra live account, so its not like microsoft loses money, the game developers are the ones getting the short end, but damn 60 $ is a lot of money especially when great game titles come out so fast.i know that there are people that mod there xboxes eveny thou they have tha means to support thier gaming habit but from my personel expirence the people i know mod there xbox for the fact that they cant afford to buy games. the same reason that people buy an xbox and not a ps3 the xbox is more affordable. so i feel that microsoft is attacking the small buget gamers and it is unfair. we saved our pennies for a long time to buy the console and never got to enjoy it. this past year ive been a hermit becuase ive had so much fun with the 360 the best gaming console on the market. ive also learned alot, red ring fixes updated firmware.so enogh rambling. one of my consoles was banned and i now have my game plan, red ring xboxes go for about 40 dollars on ebay, so if it comes down to me buying broken consoles every 3-6 months, so be it!! there are so many red ring consoles out there ill buy em rather then 60$ for a game ill pay the 40$ for a console and fix it. this recent banning session has me fired up, so to microsoft, let this jorney begin your unlimited resources vs my small modding community!!!
omegaki314
its bs actually
i dont even have a modded console but my 360 got banned a few days ago. and this is the funny part
i havent been online in a few weeks so what could i have done
then when i called in
the lame receptionist says "were sorry but we cant un ban your console you just have to buy a new one"
now if i wasnt a fanboy then i would be talking trash and just got get a ps3 but ill just get a new one until next time cause then im getting the ps3 cause that was bs and they knew it
Microsoft lost all respect for doing this
redknight4
I'm just glad I don't have to mod my PS3 to play import games
there is a good percentage of import 360 games that require a mod just to play it on NA consoles.
360lol
I wanna buy porn with microsoft points! I remember the first time I created an xbox live account I gave myself 20k microsoft points... those were the better days.
360lol
I cant wait to download and burn the proper modern warfare 2 game. Almost forgot, Left4dead 2, I' waiting for you!
neildiamond1234
just got teh bannnnnhammer, i was enjoying that l4d2 demo too, i was running an older firmware version tho, serves me right. Now off to buy another console to re-mod with the latest firmware. MS cant stop meeee
youamdumb
If your console was banned ( mine was ) stop complaining and go buy another console. Think of all the money you have saved on games, if you have more than 3-4 pirated games, that equals the same cost as a console. Plus you only need to purchase an arcade, you can reuse your hard drive.
As for the rest of you do-gooders, let the person who has never pirated/downloaded ANYTHING ( music, movies, etc..) throw the first stone. Unless you really haven't pirated anything in your life, in which case I would like to say ( sincerely) good for you, you have incredible morals.

Gee, well, I have had my system hacked to play the biurned copies since I am stuck collecting disability for the rest of my days and with the cost of living increase without a rise in money collected, I can no longer buy the games. People have been modding consoles since consoles came out (I should know, I have been a gamer for all of my 30 years on this mudball) and people will STILL find a way around whatever the companies think they can do to keep people from doing things such as modding systems and whatnot. I mean, hell, there are TONS of fantastic homebrew games out there and gaming companies should be looking to those people to hire on to create more games that perhaps people would be willing to spend $60+ on. Thank you Microsoft for stopping me from ever picking up another game from anyone you speak with......... Oh well, back to my modded Dreamcast then.

i notice those who support the ban get more + and those against the ban get more -. ultimate alliiance time!
more personally i feel more neutral. for i am against cheating like shooting faster and what not. but i can understand if one wanted to mod it to play pirated games to merely save money similar to downloading music. not saying its right really but i don't really look down at the ones just wanted to save money
guys, if we do start taking sides, i'm choosing the anti ban squad. whos with me? those pro ban have their points which are valid. but we must fight just because!
asherdelampyr
I have all of 3 points to attempt to make here, then I am done.
1) Yes, it is perfectly fine for you to do whatever the hell you want with your console. I dont care if you flash the disc drive or put pimp lights on it. Not my box, not my problem, and in a real sense Microsoft actually isnt telling you that you cant.
2) XBLA Belongs solely to Microsoft. They dont have to let anyone play on it. Sure that would be a horrible business decision, yet there it is. The TOS so many are willing to casually ignore states quite simply that if they find you are modding your xbox, cheating or even just being too much of a jerk they can stop you from playing on XBLA. This isnt a new thing, it is actually standard accepted practice through any network provider. hell that is the reason that the TOS even exists. In simpler terms, Thier Network, Thier Rules.
3) It doesnt matter why you modded your system, the simple fact remains that you either A did it knowing it was against the TOS or B did it without bothering to read the TOS or at least skim through it. either way you screwed yourself. Right or wrong isnt really the issue here you break someones rules, they punish you for it. Where is the confusion?

@usetheforce666
wow. every point u made is dead wrong..
1. Why cant i sue the word force? How do you suppose they hackers get back online again? The ONLY way to do this is to buy another console. WRONG
2. Sure, it's easier and easier for ppl like me to mod the Wii, but I'm refferring to the actual hackers that have to get passed every roadblock. I take part in the mod community, especially the well known Wii modders, so I think I would know a lot more than you about the Wii. You not mentioning the Homebrew channel clearly shows your ignorance...because you cant hack via USB.
3. Case 1 is right. Im talking about from that point on, nobody wins. From the second MS bans a hacker, this is the timeframe im talking about. Hackers gain nothing more from where the were primarily
You should just stop trying to argue
