The newest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine hints that Rocksteady Games is working on (or planning to work on, or would like to work on) a sequel to awesome super-hero action game Batman: Arkham Asylum.
"I’m not really allowed to comment on that, but there are definitely lots of exciting stories to tell in Batman’s world," Sefton Hill, co-founder of Rocksteady Studios, said. "I can say that we’re really privileged to work on it, and excited about future possibilities."
Okay, that's hardly a scream of "We're totally working on Arkham Asylum 2!" but it's encouraging nonetheless. That game is so solid, I want Rocksteady to make every Batman game from now until the end of time.
What would you like to see in a follow-up to Arkham? Personally, I want an open-world Gotham City that's the same size as Liberty City in GTA 4, with the Batmobile and The Batwing as major modes of transportation. Either that, or a cell-shaded throwback to 1960s Batman. Where would you like to see the next Batman? A super-heroic RPG, maybe? How about Batman and Robin cart racing? Batman Babies (for the Wii, of course)? Give your own ideas in the comment section.

It would also be cool, if you could have a story line kinda like No More Heros. You play as Batman and he goes around taking down hi biggest enemies one by one.

I would liketo see DLC that is FREE. I hate having to pay for a new gadget or something. I would love invisibke predator maps, and new gadgets, and maybe a DLC of amini game where you play a s a villain.

It would also be cool, if you could go along the lines of becoming good or more evil. You could help people out, or you could help villains. You have to make a good or bad name for yourself, and different missions and things come from different choices.

Here is what should be in the game of the batman sequel video game. For starters to give it a realistic invironment you should merge gotham city with new york city including the sewer and bruce waynes big house with the batcave.what batman can use in the game is the batwing, batmobile, batmotorcycl e,and the batboat. He should also have two attributes one is the interagation mode and scary mode because he dealing with people not prisoners of arkham asylum. At bruce waynes house he should have a practice mode for gagits and kungfu training and healing mode just in case he get hurt really bad.Now what batman has to deal when in the city includes thugs, gangsters, dirty law enforcment, crime lords, crazy people, and supervilliains basically all the crime that deals with big city.Batman should have new moves gagits and costumes like a gas mask or a aqua mask when deals with dangerous gas or if he goes in the water. Last but not least arkham asylum should still be in the game just in case he needs to take a notorious criminal to jail like the joker. Now when I beat the the challage mode should be to keep the city safe from all angles and that when you can play with robin or batman or both they can team up to put the worst in prison.

The first game was awesome, and well, I "played the ass off of it". Batman:AA2 would just be awesome. One thing that i would want to see is more playable character (like how many are in Lego Batman). Also Splitscreen and co-op, or even an splitscreen arena battle, P1 vs. P2 kinda thing...butore that 2 people....OH! and online. Lots of people all in one arena, beating the hell out of eachother until one rains supreme.

TO HELL WITH DLCs!! I'm so sick of DLC all the time! I don't have the "luxury" of being able to afford XBL and then have to pay for the content as well! It's just a way for them screw me AND you out of our hard earned cash! Now if your one of those morons who blow every last cent you have on gaming, the good for you! But for us people who actually have budgets (and brains.), it's just. too. much. Now if one day they could make either XBL(or PSN) or the DLCs themselves free, then ok. I don't have a problem with DLCs, just the price. AND I think that DLCs should ONLY BE OPTIONAL! You should not have to Download anything to get Significant content, at least it shouldn't cost anything.

I Say let the second game take place in Gotham city itself and also add more of batman's rogue's like Two-face,madhatter,Redhood and many others. Arkham asylum only had a few bosses but i want more of them to show up. Also let batman hide in the shadows like he does in the comics/Animated series and leap out when the enemies least expect it.

I would like to see an open world like Fable 2. I would like gliding, Batmoblie, Batwing, Batboat and Bat cycle as major modes of transportation. There needs to be more gadgets available to the player and more access to the Batcave. If it's an open world I need Batman to be able to jump across building, thanks.
It would make the game more interesting to see sidekicks added for multiplayer action: Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, and even Batwoman. Instead or one main villain of the story. Have Batman trying to capture two maybe three major rogues and then coming across a few of the less know rogues along the way.
Although B:AA was a great game IMO it was way too short. If its open ended then the game could have new chapters added as DLC. Here's an example: at the end of the game you put away the majors rogue and then a new escapes setting up a new chapter in the game. Knowing that when you finish there a new chapter coming would give more gamers the incentive to finish.
I wouldn't mine if some of the gadget where DLC: like newer and better Batsuit or accessories to the Batsuit. The best example of game play and DLC that I'm talking about Fable 2. With its open world and added DLC it kept the game interesting for me and now I can't wait for Fable 3.

I think that if they go open world the graphics and fighting actions and takedowns ALL will suffer, GTA is great and all but the graphics aren't on the same level as BAA. I would like to see more invisible predators with more ways to freak out the bad guys, more dark and "gothic" settings.

I would like to see a Batman game that plays like Crackdown where you can move around the city freely and do little missions but you can also jump into one of Batman's common modes of transportation to get around also. I think that style of game play would work well with a Batman game.

While I agree that a GTA4-sized city would certainly be very fun to play around in, part of what made Arkham Asylum so fun(At least for me!) was the attention to detail and character given to each of the Asylum's induvidual locations.
Perhaps Rocksteady can translate that to an entire city scape, and I would LOVE the chance to drive the Batmobile, Batplane, or Batboat in the next game, but I would much rather avoid common mistakes that other developers make such as making too large a city with too little mission options.
And, of course, I hope that in the event of another game, it feels as true to Batman and his history as every second of Arkham Asylum did.
P.S.- Wounld enjoy seeing how Rocksteady would handle having Penguin, Catwoman and Mr. Freeze in the game... Too many ice-puns, and I'll swear off their games for good. ;)

i don't know why some of you guys don't think an open world gotham city for the sequel would be great since arkham asylum is basically and open world game just that the main parts of arkham asylum are centered in buildings which played an important part in each chapter of the game. i think if they were to put co-op in a open world it should be split-screen like RE5. but i think it would be harder to manager another character in the story. another problem would be be the a.i. of the second character. I'm not really for it since it could end up really bad, i prefer batman to run solo. as for the transportation, having the bat-mobile bat-wing and and bat-cycle would be great. i don't think there would be any problems of getting transportation were ever he is. I'm pretty sure that batman has a device in his belt to call any of the vehicles. i would expect the sequel to come till at least the end of next year or early 2011. Rocksteady should take their time to make an open world batman game work. I'm pretty sure that two-face is going to be the main villain and bane and the venom is going to some how be apart of the next story, rocksteady should include villains who weren't apart of the arkham asylum story like the penguin, cat woman, mr freeze, fire fly and others in dlc like gta4 has the lost and the damned. or rocksteady can put extra villains to be tied in the story like arkham asylum which did pretty awesome. i just hope we get more gadgets in our arsenal and different types of suits with different features.

I'd like to see them fix Batman Arkham 1 first. COnstant bugs abound in PS3, 360 and pc versions. Go to Eido's chat board to read about the freezing issues that are plaquing this game. Also the freeze requires users to erase their save data and start from scratch one player stated he was at 95% completion when it crashed. Follow this up with Eido's lack of communication to all queries on a fix coming and it's disheartening.

A GTA style batman game sounds like an awesome idea.

Personally, I want to see the "Hush" storyline in the next Batman game. The story was just so epic, and it's also the way I want Riddler to be conceived for the next Nolan movie if Riddler is indeed in it.

The Story, "No Man's Land" would work the best I think for an open world game. An let face it who, while having Bats perched up on one of the larger buildings in Akham, didn't want to hop in the Batwing and check out the whole of Gotham that was laid out in the background? It has to be open world because another encapsulated episode would be a bit of a let down (not a big one mind you if that's all we can get for now but still a let down). Think about it, the full Bat Cave not an annex, the Batmobile to race around the streets in the Batwing or Batcycle! In that story arc Gotham is rocked by a massive earthquake and is nearly destroyed. It's they abandoned by then Pres. Luthor.
As for the villains, once again in No Man's Land we get the cream of Bats rouges gallery running around and trying to carve out parts of the earth quake ravaged Gotham for themselves. While the Bat lays down the the law and fights to give Gotham one more chance blah blah blah.
Eh. Just a thought.

I was thinking about this last night, actually haha.
I definitely think an open-world Gotham would be amazing. Driving the Batmobile, the Batpod, the Batwing...amaaaaazing. That's what I'd like most for BM:AA 2.

I say that when they do begin to make the sequel, rock-steady should just pretend that Robin's invitation got lost in the mail.
Batman works best as a lone character no matter what medium he's in.
I didn't even like having the oracle in the game. It didn't hurt the game too much having her in the plot but I just had trouble believing how she could constantly be feeding me with useful information in just a matter of seconds. Maybe I would have liked her more as a believable character if they explained how her equipment worked a little better. or game her a little more introduction and just through the text in the character bio's section.
Plus, I never heard of her before so I was itching to talk to someone a little more iconic the whole time she was speaking, like, "Yeah that's nice, Oracle, you wanna put Alfred on the line?"
