Nokia N-Gage

Gamers, I hope you're sitting down. I'm about to deliver some terrible, terrible news: Nokia is killing the N-Gage gaming service. I'm sure all of you N-Gage fanboys will need a moment to get over the terrible news.  Instead of N-Gage Nokia will sell games via its Ovi store for Nokia smartphones.

The original N-Gage, an innovative, but disastrously poorly designed phone with gaming device and MP3 player, was introduced in 2003. After disappointing sales of the device, Nokia changed strategies, dropped the handset and in 2005 began offering N-Gage Network in all its phones for gaming. This apparently has not worked out either, and it seems that the N-Gage name is finally gone from the world forever. May god have mercy on its soul.

Sadly, the N-Gage as a phone really was ahead of its time, offering bluetooth and internet gaming when no one else did and featuring at least the horsepower to run decent games. The problems came in the poor design (you had to take the battery out to insert a cartridge and it was terrible for talking on the phone) the high price ($299!) and a limited selection of games at launch.

Did you have an N-Gage? Did you know anyone who bought one? What did you think?
