The Discovery Channel and Crave Entertainment announced recently that video game version of popular Discovery channel shows Man Vs. Wild and The Deadliest Catch will be release on "all current video game platforms" beginning in Spring 2010.
Um... there already is a Deadliest Catch video game. Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm came out for the PC and 360 last summer. It earned a single star from X-Play and contained my very favorite video game feature of all time: At one point, your fishing trawler must dock at a crowded port, and the game instructs you to "Press X to wait in line." The game has built-in line-waiting! Talk about fun!
So I guess I can't blame Discovery Channel for pretending the first Deadliest Catch game never happened, fresh start and all that. Here are the official descriptions of the games:
In the Man vs. Wild game, players control their character under the guidance of host and survival expert Bear Grylls as they exercise the necessary survival skills in a wide variety of landscapes and climates. In the Deadliest Catch game, players act as the captain of their own crab boats and navigate through the Bering Sea to cast and harvest pots all the while balancing the dangers against the profits.
I see a lot more possibility with a Man vs. Wild game than a Deadliest Catch game -- I've been fishing, and it's pretty boring -- but I have this feeling both will end up being poorly conceived shovelware. Just call me "psychic."

I guess Family Guy was not too far off on the game they had in Cheesey Charlie's, the "Stuck Behind a Bus" game. yeah awesome, So are we gonna start seeing people playing a "waiting in line at the movie theater" game while they are waiting in line at the movie theater? natedizzle23 is right, they are running out of ideas. What other TV shows are they gonna make into games? They haven't tapped the sit-com market yet have they? Facts of Life video game anyone? Or how about Cheers?

I know it wont happen but they could seriously make some pretty cool survival games but nothing can compare to Oblivion's atmosphere but if I was going for something similar I got similar feelings watching the show then I did playing the game

I know I'll be eating simulated camel turds in man vs. wild to keep from getting digital dysentery. I'm sure someone will be proud to own it.
It will find a nice home right next to my ET atari game, Yo!Noid NeS game, and of course Deadliest Catch-Alaskan Storm.

What about the Man v. Food game? I know there was the "All you can Quaff" minigame in Castle Crashers, but there's much more potential!

A Survivorman, The Colony, or a Mythbusters game would have been so much better.

"Man vs Wild" is a terrible show. It's not survival, it's some British twit doing stunts. And afterwards, he flies back into town do sleep in a hotel. In one episode, he made an entire segment out of crossing a glacier without crampons (spikes you attatch to your shoes), then when he came back after the commercial break, he had crampons!! And don't even get me started on his camera crew. The show sucks and the game will be nothing more than shovelware.
Viva Survivorman!!!

"Mann vs. Wilde": My money's on Aimee. She'd probably take Oscar down and scratch the hell out of him.

I hope they do a dirtiest jobs game next.

Bear Grylls is the man!
Also, your title says Man Vs. Wild, but the beginning of the article says Man Vs. Nature.

I love reading reviews of truly terrible games. While I feel sorry that you guys had to suffer through such tragic wastes of time, there is a certain beauty to being able to put into words just how bad a company just ripped off its customer base.
Unless I get to be Will Ferrel following Bear Grylls around, I think I'll pass.
