Brutal Legend Multiplayer DLC Detailed And Dated

Brutal Legend

One of the shortcomings of the multiplayer portion of Double Fine’s inspired ode to heavy metal, Brutal Legend (check out my review to find just how inspired), was its limited number of maps and modes. While I can’t tell you when you might be able to engage in something other than straight up skirmishes, I can tell you that new maps are on the way, and they’re coming very soon.

Electronic Arts announced today that it will be releasing the "Tears of the Hextadon" map pack on Xbox Live on Nov. 3 for 400 Microsoft Points. The pack will be released on PlayStation Network on Nov. 5 where it will be free until Nov. 19. After that, it will cost $4.99 (Not entirely sure why the pack will be free for a short period on the PS3, but I just poked EA about it, so I’ll let you know what I find out.).

The pack contains two maps, Circle of Tears and Death’s Fjord, and here are their official descriptions:

"In the first map, Circle of Tears, vile waters have carved a rough-hewn circular battlefield into a forsaken land that players must circumvent to destroy their opponent. In the second map, Death's Fjord, players find themselves on an icy mountain pass with a dense cluster of fans that lie below, waiting to be harvested by those brave enough to capture them without cover from enemy attack. All players who download the new map pack will receive a free axe, the Blade of Ormagöden."

New maps AND a free Ormagöden-powered axe?! DECAPITATIOOOOOOON!!!! (That’s how I say, “Quite fine, indeed” now.)

How are people feeling about Brutal Legend’s multiplayer a few weeks in? Still having fun, or is it starting to wear thin?

I'm planning on beating the single player either tonight or tomorrow. After that I'm moving on to multiplayer.

aside from the RTS controls not being as great it did mix the game up and add more to it, but overall I wish this game had more combos, axes, strings, and car parts to buy in the store.
I would also like to see some new side quests/missions that aren't repetitive and take full advantage of the awesome world double fine has created (more things kind of like the bat quest). I mean the best part of Brutal Legend (besides the writing) is the world itself (I really enjoyed the detail they put into it)

This game was terrible.... It starts out very good. I was sold on the demo. You get to play solos and get cool things to happen. Driving around was fun and the fighting was OK (combos couldve been more fluid). The comedy was good. Then it turns into a RTS with terrible controls. If this would have been part of the demo, I would have never bought this game.

I will download it only because its free on the PS3 and that you get a new axe. So why not?

Because Microsoft never gives things for free.

Reason why it's not free on Xbox? Because Microsoft won't give anything away it doesn't have to.

Thank god I got it on PS3, free axe is awesome even if we don't play multiplayer. DECAPITATION!!!

I would maybe pick up story dlc but the mp isn't worth spending money on. I loved this game but the mp is kinda an after thought.

I would get this if I could find anyone to play with. It took me probably 15 minutes to get into a game with one other person.

    "Brutal Victory!"
Thank you EA and Double Fine! WOOT free!
This is great news! I hope they give us more story to play in the near future.
I also hope DLC doesn't disappoint like the Batman AA did. It was cool to get 2 free DLC packs but that was it. Feels like they kind of abandoned it since, but it's still a semi-new game too.
I really hope Brutal Legend brings some somewhat regular DLC. There is just too many possibilities in the Metal World of Lore to make Expansions and DLC.
Such as, Fletus Faction, New chapters, NEW MUSIC! (just a few, check the forums they are flooded with suggestions)
New maps! I was expecting to get bored playing the same ones over and over again sometime soon.
Now if we could score a patch to fix the bugs before this releases it would be an Uber Brutal Victory!

I haven't played around with the multiplayer much, though I was thinking of checking it out for the trophies. While enourmously fun in the context of the game, I don't know how the stage battle multiplayer is going to play out. We'll see though.

The multiplayer fails to deliver for me. It's not entertaining, and reminds me of the more frustrating portions of the game. I would much prefer DLC with a new campaign and story.
