The next game in the tough-as-nails Ghouls 'n Ghosts series from Capcom is coming to an unlikely place: the iPhone. Capcom has announced Ghouls 'n Ghosts: Gold Knights for Apple's device, which includes six stages and two playable characters -- Arthur and Lancelot. Gold Knights adopts a look not unlike the PSP iteration, Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins.
Troubling, however, are the first screen shots from the game (you can see more over at IGN). Like its other efforts on the iPhone, Ghouls 'n Ghosts is controlled through a virtual d-pad. That didn't work so well in the iPhone version of Mega Man 2, another game requiring absolute precision in order to play. Hopefully Golden Knights' difficulty has been tweaked appropriately.
Gold Knights will also include the option to purchase downloadable content in-game, in order to "further customize your Ghouls 'n Ghosts" experience. No release date's been announced, but iPhone games have a tendency to just randomly appear.

Heh...I forsee many a broken IPhone going on ebay for parts a week after release of this one. As if playing a G&G game with a non-virtual controller wasn't frustrating enough... still some of my fav games regardless though.

I hope they port all of these types of things to XBL and PSN. It'd be a shame for all these great remakes and sequels to only be playable on a phone with a virtual gamepad.
