If you want to see what a four-player co-op experience in Army of Two is like when Army of Two II: The 40th Day is released on January 12th next year, make sure you pre-order. Electronic Arts is restricting the Extraction mode (think: Firefight from Halo 3: ODST, Horde from Gears of War 2) for an entire month to pre-order players only.
"The first multiplayer mode, and in my opinion the most exciting, is Extraction," said Eric Chartrand in a developer diary on the game's official web site. "Extraction is a new game mode that was devised as a bonus for pre-orders, giving gamers who preorder a month of exclusive access."
My prediction: the reaction to this move will be negative. I've contacted Electronic Arts for more details about the pre-order program. As soon as I hear back, I'll let you know.

Stupidest pre-order "bonus" ever.
Nub Salad
If the multiplayer is 4 players, wouldn't that be army of 4?
Full price game without access to all features right away? lol wat?
The Emperor's Champion
I stopped buying EA games ages ago. They're retards.

This is stupid as hell. EA is always doing this stuff, and I'm sick of it. Their crappy Download Manager, the horrible anti-piracy software, and saving content for DLC.It's pathetic, they really do not care about the customers. The only reaso I can see for them doing this is to make sure that people buy it if they want the content.

Agreed. I'm so sick of devs withholding content for pre-orders or dlc only. Fail.

EA should have put there money in making BLACK 2 not this

I'm sorry people, but... cry me a river and then drown in it.
First off. If you don't like the game then what are you reading about it for?
Second. If you don't like EA's tactic then you should be against all the other stuff that is exclusive to pre-orders for games. Like the special guns I just got in Borderlands.
Third. It is not forever, it's a month... I will probably play the rest of the game then come back to it, or my friends and I will all pre-order and play the game while everyone else sits around complaining instead of just playing one of the other games in the stack they have unfinished.
You're all focusing on the negative. Perhaps EA is thinking that it is more a gift for those that are taking a chance on the game by pre-ordering it.

That sounds like something M$ would pay $50 million for.

Wow that's a pretty lame move by EA.
why would they do such a thing. . .they're getting greedier every time they release a new game.
cooperjs1
I'll never buy it just on that basis. Maybe the S.O.B.s will go under. Ea, you can go to h3ll.
Canid117
This is the single greediest thing EA has ever done
I am well and truly opposed to exclusive content for pre-orders because it just doesn't seem right to me. This however is some thing different. This is like crossing the line then jumping in a fully fueled rocket car and going mach 3 for a couple of hours after you cross the line.

I'm still in shock they're making a second game. I borrowed the game from my friend and the game is horrible.

Rant: Man forget you EA trying to get my money like that and take away basic features from me. I just got Madden 09 after hesitating to buy a madden game for 4 years... that game sucks, the NFL 2k series was way better, thanks to madden I hold on to those games tighter, and yes those are ps2 games, no wonder you bought the rights to the nfl, you lazy punks couldn't take the competition, you know the football games are going to sell, so you just release a new madden every year with like 1 new feature and roster updates with same crappy graphics, (only the grass looked good)and annoying boring announcers, and football gamers have no choice so you just bring in the money every time. The last good need for speed was Most wanted, and that's cause the ending sucked, I felt that I accomplished nothing. The only good game you have is Dead Space. I cant wait for Sega to get NFL rights to make a new game, it will wipe the floor with madden for sure. I liked the first army of 2 and wantED this one, but this little stunt just cost you a sale.

Something tells me this will be another R.E.5 multiplayer pass

I think it's going to cause a lot of people to wait a month to buy the game. Simple as that. Why spend 60 bucks and not get the full experience. That's why i just picked up Fallout 3 GOTY. same price 1 year later with at least 60 dollars of DL extras. People are going to wait to but it and by the time they do the extraction will be out for all.

I'm one of the biggest fans of this highly criticized series and I can't wait to get 40th Day,but it really gets to me that EA screws over the fans like this. I don't pre-order games because there are always enough copies on launch day and I'd rather not tie up my money for no reason, even if it is just 5 bucks. Usually the only reason I would pre-order is to get a bonus like an action figure, but with this the incentive to pre-order is you'll be denied the full game experience unless you commit to buying the game before any reviews are released. This is completely ridiculous.
This is nothing new with Army Of Two, after really enjoying the splitscreen co-op of the first game, I bought the multiplayer add-on for PS3 and I couldn't get it to connect to a game once. I checked message boards and this was an issue with seemingly every PS3 user. EA never resolved the issue and left a bunch of customers out 7 bucks. It's really getting hard to stay an Army Of Two fan. Just release a game that works and everyone can enjoy, enough with these customer-screwing money making tactics.

So let's punish people not sure enough about the game to pre-order by not giving them this mode, and let's punish those who DO pre-order by giving them this mode and no one to play with, since we're restricting it to pre-orders? Admittedly, I'm not marketing guru, but this doesn't seem like a very wise game-plan.
BONERJAM
I dont think it will matter to much since I haven't heard many people say that they are super excited about this game, I know I'm not.
GStylez80
That is a ridiculous move by EA. This is not the next Gears of War, Uncharted, or Halo...it was already going to be hard for them to sell copies of AOT during this crowded gaming period. And now they want to force people to pre-order just to play a mode that the three games I just mentioned already have and probably have implemented better? You didn't really have my sale before, EA...now this is a certainty.
