To say God of War III is an eagerly awaited game among PlayStation 3 owners is a huge understatement. Kratos' first foray into the current generation had better be epic to meet expectations, and, at this early date, it's looking like "epic" is the right word -- DLC is being discussed, and the game's creators seem to be taking the artistic challenges of making a truly godlike game seriously.
According to game's director, Stig Asmussen, in an interview with GamePro, multiplayer will not be included in the game because of the story-telling problems it creates -- GOW III's developers are not willing to sacrifice the core experience players expect in order to jump on the multiplayer bandwagon.
"With God of War 3, there's a story we want to tell and an experience we want to deliver, and multiplayer doesn't fit into that," Asmussen said. "Imagine two Kratos characters running around at the same time. Once you do that, the story becomes something more about an experience between two players and less about something that we're scripting. So, you have something like Left 4 Dead, which is sweet, but we just decided with this game, there's a certain way that we want to tell it. And staying with what we've done in the past, we want to complete the story in a way that was familiar to everybody."
When asked about GOW III challenge rooms, Asmussen said:
"It would make a lot of sense to be able to download them. That's something we might see in the future. So, maybe you'll see the game ship with a certain amount of challenges on it, then later on, we might put a download pack out with new challenges. It's a good way to keep the series going."

If you do put multiplayer in then i suggest makeing it so you can pick kratoses war paint color on him that would even things out a bit but that's my opion

first off this is agreat game but for all u who think it dont need multiplayer u are stupid. i mean come on who really thinks it wouldn't be cool i think they should add a dlc for like a fighting arena with all the gods to pick from and make it kinda like a powerstone type fighter with up to 4 players and even add finishing moves that use quick time button presing and have the levels be the titans. i love the way uncharted 2 had a cool side multiplayer and i REALLY think this game needs something extra as well.

Can everyone please stop using the word "epic"? It has become stagnate alongside some old pop culture favorites such as "like" and "radical". I swear it seems like it is the only adjective people know anymore...

Yep this game will be epic enough and doesnt need multiplayer. im gonna get this day one until then GODofWar colletion in November

good this game doesnt need multiplayer it wouldnt make sense if it did and the game is awesome enough just to have the single player story which i hope is long and good to keep me busy DLC yese i would want that who wouldnt DLC is awesome but still not multiplayer

Thank the Maker that they're not putting in multiplayer and co-op. Ya, people like them but its just not God of War. Killing Cyclopses beheading Medusa then all of a sudden, another Kratos jumps in. It just doesn't work. Two tigers can't share a mountain. Now DLC, maybe. Depending on what it is obviously. Challenge rooms might work, and if its a lost episode or something, again to the obvious it would have to tie in to the story. It can't just be there to ''milk the franchise.'' Now like its predecessors, it has to be an EXPERIENCE. The experience of a god.

All I have to say is thank you for not putting multiplayer onto a game, that doesn't need multiplayer. I get tired of companies putting it in games because idiots complain about games that should only be 1 player, not having multiplayer. Stuff like that takes resources away from the single player experience.

what!!!!!???? man!!!! i was hoping for something new on GOW 3!!!!! this is soo stupid this would be greatest game if it has a multiplayer just imagine u playing with your friends using kratos and other characters on campaign or horde mode lol !!!!!

god of war definetely does not need a multiplayer mode there is no need

They should make a Co-Op mode where Kratos, Athena and Hercules go fight legions of enemies together, and then maybe a battle of the gods arena mode where you just pick gods and duke it out.
Other than those two modes (which would be freakin awesome) I don't think GoW3 needs a multiplayer.

Sony is really bringing out some great exculsive titles like uncharted 2 which is one of the best games of all time, with god of war 3 still to come woo!!!!! Glad i have a ps3!!!

honestly coop or multiplayer wouldnt fit. the point is you are Kratos and you are one badass god killing mofo, you dont need help, you dont want help, you freaking Kratos for kratos sake, your a one god army (on that note how badass would it be to have an army of Kratoses, like honestly if one Kratos can take down the gods, what could a million Kratoses do?)
Kratos said it best himself, there can only be one god of war...if another Kratos came into play, the origonal Kratos would just have to kill him obvi it wouldnt work out
no multi or coop is needed or wanted...if they wanna put in a multi or coop mode for DLC then w/e but dont ruin the game itself to try and include it...they are making the right decision :)

Good call for the exclusion multiplayer element, at least this is a game that I just expect to sit and play by myself and others watch, DLC is a good thing.
I mean, look at Uncharted 2. It has a awesome single player experience and the multiplayer is merely a plus to it, I never consider the first Uncharted to be co-op and neither the second one. But welcome never the less the aspect.
Some games are meant to be single played, GoW is one of those games.

Cant wait for the quarter of next year. Its going to be crazy with this, Heavy Rain, Mass Effect 2, FF 13, and Bioshock 2.
