THQ announced today that Vigil Games’ post-apocalyptic action-fantasy game Darksiders will be released on Jan. 5, 2010.
Now, post-apocalyptic settings have quickly become what World War II has been for gaming for years: fertile creative ground that has been endlessly mined by developers regardless of how many other games have done it already or are planning to do it in the future. Most of the time, though, these settings are all based around nuclear devastation, which is why I’m actually interested in seeing what Vigil can pull off with Darksiders, since the game is set 100 years after the biblical apocalypse. I don’t actually believe an event such as this will ever happen, but the idea of playing as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is pretty rad. I just hope the game can sustain such an intriguing idea.
Anyone particularly excited about Darksiders? Are you over post-apocalyptic settings yet, or are they like zombies in that they will always be entertaining and appreciated?

I can't wait for it. The Nuclear Apocolypse card has been played one too many times, so I'm glad to see that at least one game focuses on the mythical side of the Apocolypse.

Ummm......how many video game plots do you actually expect to happen? Not trying to be a douche, but that just seems like a weird thing to say.

I'm also a bit tingly about this game. I remember a previous game which was based on the four horsemen, but it was canceled. It seemed regrettable and I'm glad we're getting another chance to be one of the horsemen.
BTW-If anyone remembers the game I was talking about, is there any relation to the Darksiders from a developer end?

The only way I'd be more excited, is if it was called "Battle Chasers".

So...what other post-apocalyptic games are there besides Fallout? I'm drawing a blank. Even if there are others it's kinda silly to say that the number of them compares to the number of WW2 based games. Well, whatever, Darksiders is gonna rock face...I just hope it doesnt fall on the same week as Bayonetta.

This is one game I can't really explain why I'm interested in. I'm not much into the post-apocalyptic worlds, but this game could change my mind. Maybe its because the city looks like its in ruins and not radiated to all Hell due to some nuclear explosion... I don't know, but as long as I fight demons and minions from Hell instead of mutant humans, I think I'll be ok with this one.

Very excited for this one. I think the idea they are playing with has a lot of potential, and as long as their is some exploration/collectables to go along with their open world kill fest, I am in.
