The coordinated marketing blitz behind The Beatles: Rock Band was unprecedented, but with interest in music games on the decline and Guitar Hero remaining a continuing top performer, were the fab four enough to topple Guitar Hero 5? As it turns out, yes. The NPD Group has informed me The Beatles: Rock Band, across all platforms, outsold Guitar Hero 5 in September.

According to the numbers, The Beatles: Rock Band sold 595,000 copies across all platforms (it was released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii), while Guitar Hero 5 sold 499,000 copies across all platforms (the game was released on PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii).

Which one did you pick up? Or were you fortunate enough to grab both?

Wow I'm surprised. Good for them though, I was hoping RB would eventually win against the GH name. I was lucky enough to get both. GH5 came with Van Halen and I bought that first, then picked up Beatles as one of my free games for TrU's latest B2G1 sale. Although I'm not a fan of VH or the B's the games are fun no matter what music is playing.

i think guitar hero should just focus on guitar. you can make a crappy game with a bunch of instruments or you can make a great game with one amazing guitar.

Well this is no shocker. . .
Of course Beattles Rockband would win. . .Harmonix didnt just make another "DLC" content on another disc like Guitar Hero/Activision, they put more thought into making it and made a game that is kinda like a tribute to one of the best bands in human's history.

If I had the money. . .I would buy the game, all the guitars and the drum kit.

For those GH fanboys who continued to argue that the Beatles are not the most important band in the history of music, you just got taken to school on the short bus.

I don't know about you guys, but I may be one of the few people that WASN'T born in the early 60's, late 70's whos been paying attention to this game, and got all guitars with drums. looks like many people figured that out within the 10 days activision said they outsold the beatles, laughed at that, and bought the beatles rock band. looks like they thought activision has been a bit of a d-bag and thought that thwy should be wrong.

Harmonix is talking to Guitar Hero, I brought you into this world and now I'm going to take you out of it.

If you don't know what I mean. Harmonix created Guitar Hero then left after Guitar Hero 2 to make Rock Band

I bought The Beatles: Rock Band at a midnight launch. It was well worth the purchase, I love The Beatles and Harmonix did a fantastic job on the game.

I've played Guitar Hero 5 a few times, and there's about 6 or 7 songs on disc that I'd play more than once. If King Crimson, Nirvana, and Jeff Beck weren't in that game, I'd honestly have no use or liking for it.

I've never been big on bragging about sales for a game, but considering Activision was wrong about their little self-praise, I think I'll make an exception. I picked up The Beatles: Rock Band for obvious reasons and will be buying Abbey Road DLC as soon as I can. The better game won.

I got GH 5 or I would have jeff beck and King Crimson, as well as, GH:VH. Jeff Beck + Van Halen = real guitar heroes from real rock (and fusion) bands.

But hey folks like the beatles. I think they're cool. So it's all good.

I picked up GH5, because I'm not a Beatles fan. I did, however, just play through BRB with some friends this weekend, and it was a really fun game. But again, because I'm not a Beatles fan, I haven't and won't be getting the game.

I primarily get these games to have people over and play, so the bigger the range of songs, the better. That's another reason BRB didn't appeal to me. So I'm down with games like RB2, GH5, even Band Hero, for that matter. Games with different genres of music, so everyone playing likes SOMETHING. Both of those sales figures are impressive, though.

I got them both but GH5 is unplayable due to its broken lag calibration. It really sucks.

I suppose the moral of this story is that if you approach your subject with respect and admiration then it will pay off in the end, as opposed to taking a beloved cultural icon and raping everything he stood for.
