The coordinated marketing blitz behind The Beatles: Rock Band was unprecedented, but with interest in music games on the decline and Guitar Hero remaining a continuing top performer, were the fab four enough to topple Guitar Hero 5? As it turns out, yes. The NPD Group has informed me The Beatles: Rock Band, across all platforms, outsold Guitar Hero 5 in September.
According to the numbers, The Beatles: Rock Band sold 595,000 copies across all platforms (it was released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii), while Guitar Hero 5 sold 499,000 copies across all platforms (the game was released on PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii).
Which one did you pick up? Or were you fortunate enough to grab both?

Funny, I just saw the set list for Band Hero, and I like way more song than in GH5.

I'm done with the Guitar Hero franchise. I would pick up The Beatles: Rock Band but they wont let me export the songs into Rock Band 2.

I bought GH5 and now I get Van Halen 4 free.

I gave up on GH once Activision took a dump on the franchise with GH3 and continued to rape it with bi-monthly releases. RB has always been better and Hamonix further proved this with The Beatles RB. I'm really glad I bought it because I'm now a huge fan of The Beatles.

BETA_TESTING_MOMS is wrong. Harmonix did make guitar hero 1 and 2 but they also made the terd that is guitar hero 80's. I like Guitar Hero better.

Beatles. I'll pick up GH5 when it starts showing up in the bargain bins around $20.

These numbers are particularly good for Rock Band when you take into account that GH 5 was released on more systems (including the PS2) and included a free copy of GH:VH. The Beatles is a better game than GH 5, in my opinion, but the Beatles' setlist was a bit short.
As a side note, I was suprised to find that I actually like GH: Van Halen better than GH 5, but that is mostly because I happen to be a fan of the VH's early stuff and the drum tracks are generally fast and fun to play.

Just got Abbey Road DLC today, and going to keep buying what I can to make sure they keep coming out with DLC for this game. Absolutely awesome to say the least.
And, if you want to be a stickler for details, they beat GH5 AND GH:VH as well, as you could get a free copy when you bought Guitar Hero 5.

I definitely went Beatles. Visually amazing!

Every one should make craptivision hurt even more by buying Brutal Legend.

I'm surprised, Thought GH-5 would draw more because of mixed genres, Beatle would just attract specific fans of that group. I got Beatles, I like it but not as much as RockBand to. I stopped buy GH's after I got RB1. The landscapes on the Beatles:RB is sweet, also like the friend scores listed above the songs, and sing melodies is hard but fun.
On second thought I'm sure people of new GH's coming out all the time, If I bought World Tour I would be questioning why I would get GH-5, just DLC would keep me happy.

I bought both... Rock Band dominates.

Not surprised , guitar hero 5 was shockingly bad - the only bits of the game they didnt mess up was the ideas they stole from rock band

I got hooked into music games with Guitar Hero II. I was a little hesitant to try Rock Band, but after I played it, I am not going back to the Guitar Hero franchise. It's a shame that Activision has not innovated Guitar Hero. I look at Guitar Hero 5 and it looks like a 4-year old game. Maybe Guitar Hero Led Zeppelin could save this franchise.

If activision took GH back to its "middleground" roots they might be able to get some of their audience back. I say middleground because they used fairly unknown underground music from well known artists and the fact that people weren't turned off by constant air play added to its success. I know that some people like to play dumb simple songs from Blink-182 but for a hardcore music gamer it can get old quick when the playlist is full of songs that are already showered with radio play blessings. Short story version, GH5 was not good in comparison to GH or GH2 musically. DLC is no excuse.

Dammit....I remember that from WCW all these years. :P

If Activision showed the same amount of support as Harmonix does to it's Rockband franchises maybe sales would have been better.
minty160
Rock Band has always been the better game imo. be it rock band 1 or rock band beatles, I still liked it better than any GH (except maybe metallica)

Hey, on the previous article about activision declaring a sales win, does anyone else remember the flood of ignorant commenters giving reasons why there was obviously no way The Beatles:RB could sell more than GH5? We know now it had already in fact outsold GH5. Serious comment fail. Honestly, please know what you're talking about when you comment people. lol
