I have trouble buying CNN's headline pondering about the future -- and the potential end -- of the Ratchet & Clank series, but it's an interesting question. CNN spoke with Insomniac Games about Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time and the possibility was raised that enough questions could be answered about Ratchet and Clank that the series could be permanently put to bed.
"Never say never, but people need that closure," said the game's creative director, Brian Allgeier. "We hope to be wrapping things up with a bow. […] All I'll say is we have a couple of surprises at the end of the game."
Gamers seem hungry for a new Ratchet & Clank game every few years (and previously, every year!), but at one point, isn't it simply time to move on? Or are the Ratchet & Clank games a kind of comfort food for gamers, a game that doesn't really change from iteration to iteration but the base gameplay remains so satisfying that it's really not a big deal?

I hate to be cynical (okay, I kind of like to be cynical) but as long as people keep buying these games, I predict they will keep making them.

Hmmm,well since the sony fanboys have said that Halo should be done after the third then i guess thay say the same for rachet,....or do they?
I always say that if a game is good keep making more.Too manybad games for devs to stop making good onesn matter what system it's on.

Personally, I don't see R&C: A Crack in Time being the last R&C game. Insomniac might take a break fromt he series because of Resistance but there will likely be more R&C games in some form in the future.

this seams like a good thing and a bad thing for insomniac. if this is there las ratchet and clank game for insomniac, then thay can do more original ideas(hope they work on "A Girl and her Stick" which is one of the companies first game ideas) and maby expand on resistance or work on syro again. The down side if this the last ratchet game is they will lose the fans they gained over the 7-8 years but im sure if insomniac will did do a new project, most the the ratchet fan base will still play insomniac's games, like resistance.

I say they're taking an extended break, and will focus on the Resistance franchise instead of mainly R&C.
They can't give up on R&C!

cnn? come on. they report on the wii's achievements like most sold console and least failure rate, but not the 360 or ps3 achievements like most liked console and best graphics. they don't know what there talking about

Ratchet and Clank is a really cool series and I'd hate to see it end. I think it's more likely that this will be the end of the story ark. Or this will be the last game we see Ratchet and Clank together in the same game. Or they'll take a big break with this game and come back to it sometime in the future. Who knows?
We'll just have to wait and see.

If Sonic still makes games, Ratchet and Clank could make there own system for all I care, I love the Ratchet and Clank series. I think the stories are always pretty funny.

I have to disagree with calling Ratchet and Clank "a game that doesn't really change from iteration to iteration." Every game usually brings something new to the table. Just look at the implementation of time travel in various places, the Clank puzzles, and open space exploration we get this time.
The R&C games never disappoint, so I hope they don't end anytime soon. As long as they keep the experience fresh and continue to innovate, I'm all for new R&C games.
The franchise is probably my favorite of all time, so I'd hate to see it end. But when it does, I have faith that Insomniac will bring on another great IP just as they did with Resistance.

I hope it doesn't. It's always disappointing to hear when a very popular series is concluding its story. The gamers want more. I've never grown bored of Mario, Zelda, Megaman, and all the other classics with countless sequels. I also don't want MGS and God of War to end. Why do they have to stop? Make a new story or keep the gameplay and create similar yet new characters. New IP's are always good, Uncharted was a fantasic surrpise. However they should never just drop a series. Maybe put an extra year or two between releases like Nintendo does with their games. Then everyone is happy.

I'd rather have a classy, characger/story driven end to the series than have Insomniac try to milk every single dollar out of the fans.

I will disown Insomniac if this is the last R&C game. When R&C dies, a small part of me will go with it.

Actually i think they will stop doing Ratchet and Clank for now and will make new IP for Ps3 and after that in PS4 they will be back with Ratchet and Clank. Its profitable and Insomniac wants to be fresh like Naughty Dog.
You can't make that game every year in this gen. Its not the last Ratchet and Clank game thats for one hundred percent.
