I have trouble buying CNN's headline pondering about the future -- and the potential end -- of the Ratchet & Clank series, but it's an interesting question. CNN spoke with Insomniac Games about Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time and the possibility was raised that enough questions could be answered about Ratchet and Clank that the series could be permanently put to bed.
"Never say never, but people need that closure," said the game's creative director, Brian Allgeier. "We hope to be wrapping things up with a bow. […] All I'll say is we have a couple of surprises at the end of the game."
Gamers seem hungry for a new Ratchet & Clank game every few years (and previously, every year!), but at one point, isn't it simply time to move on? Or are the Ratchet & Clank games a kind of comfort food for gamers, a game that doesn't really change from iteration to iteration but the base gameplay remains so satisfying that it's really not a big deal?

if this is the last ratchet and clank game i will be rlly dissappointed. so would millions of ppl that play ratchet and clank. i feel the story was left completely open. will ratchet ever find his family? will clank ever return to the great clock? will lawrence return as a villian in the future. wat about Angela Cross the lombax from going commando? they should make a new game having to do with interdimensional travel.

As long as Ratchet and Clank doesn't fall into the hands of some stupid mediocre 3rd party company, (like what happended to Crash and Spyro), than I couldn't care less if the series ended. I'm not saying that I want it to go away by any means, but the sad truth is anything and everything with life has a beginning, middle, and END. And I sware, as soon as Myamoto kicks the bucket (once again, I'm NOT wishing it. It's just eventually going to happen) the quality of Mario and Zelda games will probably drop.
On a ligher note, who wants to bet Resistance 3 is comming next year?
It might be two years if they want to give it more time than their other games,

ok its almost christmas time. so im thinking of getting a ps3 and getting this game and some others. but would getting a ps3 and all the games with it be better then a 360 and getting great games like section 8 of gow2?

well there is two insomniac studios now. maybe for LA insomniac, its their last game. bec North carolina Insomniac will take over R and C games from now on.

id rather RaC get a third "future" installment.
3 full releases on PS2, 3 full releases on PS3. just seems logical.
two sort of feels... odd. and yes, im well aware of the oxymoron.
i think they should put it down for a bit, relax on the IP, work on some new stuff, do their thing, then get back in the saddle, and give it the ridiculously epic ending it deserves. maybe throw out another PSP title, or pass it off to another company like they did with SAC.
suffice it to say, its one of my favorite series. i will be sad when it ends. but i will be happy to move forward, and see how such a fine series has changed the face of games.

Well if this were a Halo game, the fanbois would be "It's about time, they rode that horse to death!" But since this is a Sony title, there will be memorials and petitions to keep it going. Hello double standard, thy name is Sony Fanbois, and your website is Sony Defence Force.

I cant wait for this game to come out and even though Im a huge fan of the series I would not mind if Insomniac took a break from the series to work on some new ips.

maybe just on the PS3, but I could see another ratchet game on the PSP at least. They also have Resistance 3 to work on.
Insomniac is always creative, and probably has a million new ideas for other IP's, something that Microsoft exclusive companies can rarely say.
I will miss Ratchet and Clank, but I won't have to miss Insomniac!

I will actually be very depressed if Ratchet and Clank gets canceled. I practically grew up with these games since fourth grade. I haven't been able to play any of the PS3 versions sadly because I don't own a PS3, but I have still followed the story and the characters. I don't want to seem all pathetic, but I rally do feel like the Ratchet and Clank series helped make me who I am today and certain characteristics about my life.

The only reason I bought a PS3 was for Ratchet & Clank, since Jak & Daxter died (and Naughty Dog hasn't offered a comparable replacement). If Insomniac can come up with a suitable replacement (Sucker Punch definitely replaced Sly Cooper with inFamous), then Sony may be able to keep me as a customer. If they can't, it may just give Microsoft the opening to take me as a customer.

A series that needs a closure, is "Halo" Imao. I don't think the series can go on with the mediocre single player. I was never into the multiplayer, though it is there selling point, they need 2 focus on single player a little more if they wanna make a good sequel. Uncharted 2 is a great sequel and it was made in 18 months from what I heard compared 2 ODST 4 month difference development time(14 months), but look at Uncharted 2, it destroys ODST in quality and story which is worth the money compared 2 an overpriced expansion DLC, which should be called Halo 3.5! Uncharted 2 GOTY!

Relax guys isomniac is just trying to shake the cage.In the last 20yrs I hear it all the time from developers.This is the last Prince of Persia,the last Koijma Metal gear,the last Tomb raider and the last Mega man.Thats until they get that big bank roll check from making that great franchise they claim is at its end of the rope.Just like the James Bond movie "Never say Never Again.
