BioWare has announced that its highly anticipated sci-fi RPG Mass Effect 2 will be released on Jan. 26, 2010. The developer also revealed details about bonus in-game items that will be available to those who pre-order the game from select retailers.
For those who pre-order through GameStop, you’ll receive Terminus Assault Armor and the M-90 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon. Here are the official descriptions:
- The Terminus Armor is designed for use in extreme planetary conditions, increasing run speed and personal shields, and augmenting weapons with an additional magazine of reserve ammo.
- The M-90 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon generates a high-powered localized gravity well, accelerating particles to near-infinite mass, and ultimately expanding the selection of heavy weapons available to players when they gear up for combat missions in Mass Effect 2.
If you pre-order the game through Electronic Arts online store, you’ll receive Inferno Armor, which BioWare describes thusly:
“The potent Inferno Armor…is used by officers to monitor battlefield conditions by recognizing elevated heart rates, and regulates sub-systems with extreme efficiency to allow for greater response times – together these abilities translate in-game into a negotiation bonus for Commander Shepard and an increase in run speed and augmented damage from combat powers.”
A release date AND pre-order bonuses? Mass Effect fans must be feeling pretty, pretty, pretty good about themselves right now…Right?

The GameStop suit reminds me of the suit of the dude in that cancelled game C&C: Tiberium.

WTF... This is starting to become ridiculous. So now I get to buy it twice pretty much if I want any of this stuff. If the first game wasn't so good I would tell BioWare to take a flying leap. Hopefully this stuff will be available later on the marketplace. When will they learn that everyone is getting tired of the greedy attitudes that todays corporations are displaying.

Waiting Sucks.

I wonder how the armor's will even be significant in ME 2. I think that one looks like tony stark, and the other a bit like Mandalore from KOTOR 2.

You know I pre-ordered ME from Amazon and that was totally worth it but I don't want to pre-order from either of these places, armor looks cool though. Hopefully Amazon jumps onto this and if not I'll have more money to pay off student loans lol.

As someone who pre-orders most games from Amazon, I'm wishing that there were a "general" pre-order bonus instead of one retailer and the publisher. It looks like I'll have to troll over to GS and slap some coin down.

Finally, the countdown can start for ME2. Both of the armors look sweet, but I wish there was another way to get the Inferno armor. Ive already had my copy preordered at Gamestop, and the Terminus armor looks cool, but I like the red on the other 1. Still, its going to rock, and now my anticipation for the jan release is through the roof.

I like Timbo_D point i like the whole pre-order bonuses but spliting it up so that to get both you have to get the game twice

I'm not that excited for armor. I desperately want to know the new biotic abilities in the game. Plus, what exactly happens to the Reaper legions.......

I'm ready! Like crazy ready! Now I just have to wait and see what the limited edition is going to have and hope that it also comes with the special pre-order items
jamofpearls
Yeah, I think whoever designed the Inferno Armor is gonna be getting a call from Stark Industries team of attorneys.
Tim_1138
I don't like the splitting of bonus items here. Now there are three different pre-order bonuses and you can only get two of them, unless you buy the game twice... ::looking in wallet::
DreamingDarklyRobin
Sweet. They should have added a new planet as pre order bonus tho.

Yes, Jake, we ARE happy about this. Why aren't you? ME was a great game, and ME2 looks to be even better, so why the sarcasm at the end?

That's weird. I was on Gamestop's site not long ago and for a second I THOUHGHT I saw something about the Terminus Armor but had to reboot the computer after a system update. After the reboot, I went back and there was nothing about the armor, just the Click Here button for Dragon Age. Thanks a bunch, Jake. Now I know I'm not crazy.....so long as I take my meds.

Much sooner than I thought and, not surprisingly, the same day as MAG on PS3. I'm just floored by how many quality games are being released in Q1, which is normally a dead period in gaming. Bayonetta, MAG, ME2, Bioshock 2, Red Dead Redemption, Alan Wake, Gran Turismo 5, God of War III, Splinter Cell Conviction, Dante's Inferno, Heavy Rain...all before April!? Normally, I'm stockpiling games for the winter.
