It’s been a long time coming, but it seems the next PlayStation 3 firmware update might finally bring cross-game chat to the console. However, as Kotaku reports, this is in no way official at this point. The info was revealed on a PlayStation forum by “‘Naughty Dog Dev’ ReklissAbandon after being asked about the prospect of enemy spectating in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
Obviously, being able to relay to your teammates the whereabouts of enemies wouldn’t be the fairest thing in the world. However, ReklissAbandon went on to say, “But I will suggest it anyway. Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies’ positions."
This isn’t so much a “Can you believe it?!” kind of revelations as much as it’s a “Well, it’s about time!” one, but for PS3 users, it’s still good to hear. The post has since been removed from the forum, and Sony has responded with the expected “We don’t comment on speculation.” And now we play the waiting game.
