What kind of game is it?

A 3D, third-person perspective action game featuring environmental exploration and copious amounts of gun- and melee-based combat.

Who's the developer?

Founded in 1986, Naughty Dog is best known for creating the Crash Bandicoot series for the original PlayStation. They continued to provide mascot support to Sony's PlayStation 2 in the form of Jak & Daxter, but when the PS3 arrived, they switched gears to something a tad more realistic with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Naughty Dog is currently helmed by co-presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra, and employs Amy Hennig as studio creative director. Along with her work on the first Uncharted, Hennig is responsible for writing and directing the critically-lauded Legacy of Kain games Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver II, and Defiance.

What's the story?

Freelance adventurer and reluctant hero Nathan Drake finds himself entangled in another complicated treasure hunt as he follows the path of another famed adventurer, Marco Polo. Naturally, there is competition for the ultimate prize, and the stakes turn out to be higher than originally thought. Basically, it's your classic adventure story.

Should I play the first game before this?

While Drake's Fortune is indeed awesome and multiple characters make their returns, Among Thieves is a new, independent story and you won't be lost.

Because Naughty Dog does a great job of characterization, you might miss out on some dramatic tension later in the game, as well as some subtle nuances of Drake and his friends. You'll also appreciate the improvements to the combat system, the better mix of puzzle-solving and action scenes, and an incredible variety of locations and set-pieces.

Multiplayer/Online?

Uncharted 2 has both competitive and co-operative multiplayer, but it is online only (no split-screen, sorry).

COOPERATIVE
Gold Rush:  Teams must retrieve the map's treasure while fighting AI-controlled opponents.

COMPETITIVE
Deathmatch:  5-on-5 standard deathmatch competition.
Plunder:  Capture-the-flag style, teams must capture the map's treasure.
Elimination:  Competitive deathmatch with no respawning.
Chain Reaction:  Capturing objectives in sequential order before the opposing team does the same.

What did we say?

Uncharted 2 was reviewed by Adam Sessler and received a 5/5 score:

"While the multiplayer components are outstanding, the real price of admission is the single-player campaign that should stand up over time as a seminal achievement on the level of Final Fantasy VII, GTA III or Half-Life. Uncharted 2 delivers on what so many other games just promise:  Immersion. Lost not just in a world but in a collective fantasy of the impossible made viable."
