Dragon Age: Origins

Bioware, the maker of upcoming RPG Dragon Age: Origins, has always maintained that DLC would be part of the Dragon Age experience, and today, they have detailed the downloadable content that will be available for the game on launch day in November. Of particular note, The Warden's Keep and Blood Dragon Armor. This content comes free with the purchase of Dragon Age: Origins, but must be downloaded in order for you to use it. That means that if you buy the game used, or acquire it through some other means (hint, hint), you have to pay for the download... interesting way to fight both piracy and used games sales, eh?

Anyway, here's the official description of The Stone Prisoner:

The Stone Prisoner will give players access to the mighty stone golem Shale who can become one of the most powerful party members in the game. Shale comes with its own personal back-story and unique quests for the player to discover. The Stone Prisoner DLC will also include new environments, items and hours of additional gameplay, further deepening the epic Dragon Age experience. The Stone Prisoner will be available to original purchasers of new copies of Dragon Age: Origins at no additional cost via a code* on an insert card in the retail version or as provided by the retailer for digital purchases. The Stone Prisoner can also be purchased separately for $15 on the PlayStation® Store, the PC via the in game menu or for 1200 points on Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

And the description of The Warden's Keep:

The Warden’s Keep premium DLC will provide players of Dragon Age: Origins with a new dungeon-exploring adventure, new loot including a set of ancient Grey Warden armor, a chance to gain two of six mysterious new abilities, a new base complete with merchants and a party chest to store their hard-earned items. The Warden’s Keep adventure is based on an ancient myth in the Dragon Age universe, where two centuries ago the legendary guardians known as the Grey Wardens were expelled from the land amidst a storm of blood and betrayal. Until very recently, the Wardens have been in exile, while their fortress remains overgrown and reportedly haunted. Over the long years, legends of great treasures and forgotten lore have been told of this hidden location, but no one has ever ventured there and returned alive. Warden’s Keep gives gamers the chance to unearth this lost chapter of Grey Warden history. With their trusty party and a new guide, Dragon Age: Origins players will have an opportunity to unravel the mystery behind the fall of Warden’s Keep, and finally reclaim it for the order. Warden’s Keep will be available for $7 on the PlayStation® Store, the PC via the in game menu or for 560 points on Xbox LIVE® Marketplace. It is also included with the purchase of the Digital Deluxe Edition via a code provided by retailers.

Finally, Blood Dragon Armor

BioWare will release the Blood Dragon Armor DLC, a set of themed armor that will give players additional protection in combat. This DLC is available to players who purchase a new copy of Dragon Age: Origins (original or Collector’s Edition) via a code* included with the game. This armor will be available for use in both Dragon Age: Origins on the PlayStation 3 computer and entertainment system, Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system and PC and in Mass Effect 2 on the Xbox 360 and PC.

What do you think? Are you going to download this content on launch day?

It does bother me a little bit that they are releasing dlc on launch day. I've pre ordered the regular version and it seems a little much to pay 7 more bucks for one quest. Maybe after I've played it for a while but deffinitly not buying it right away.

People who buy used games are pieces of crap...You people who buy used games are the very people who have artifically kept the new games so high in price. There is no damn way that new games should be sellins at 70 dollars in the first place...Do you see movie tickets at 70 dollars? no,do you see music at 70 dollars?no do you see books at 70 dollars?no.!!!!!! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS GOING AND GETTING THEM USED AT RETAIL THE SAME DATE AND TIME AT REALESE TIME....Gamestop has kept the prices so high because 90 percent of there sales are used...Which is why I cant wait until all games are downloadable games because then there will be a set price that all gameers will have to pay and not be at the used prices..AND THE PRICES SURE AS HELL WONT BE AT 70 DOLLARS A GAME BECAUSE PEOPLE WHO ARE CURRENTLY BUYING USED GAMES ARE POOR PEOPLE AND THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO AFFORD THE 70 DOLLAR RETAIL PRICE...SO CONCURRENTLY THE PRICE OF THE NEW GAMES WOULD BE DRIVEN DOWN IN PRICE TO MAXIMIZE SALES....USED GAMERS CAN GO TO HELL

What about digital distribution? If I get it on Steam, for example, will I still get the free DLC?

the way i see it there giving people who but the game a cool set of armor and what is said to be one of the most powerful characters in the game, and as such makeing the game harder (possibly) for those that steal or wait for the used rack. and amen to that. lets just hope it dosent turn into mass effect 1 where you get one good dlc and then nothing afterwards

I will definitely be downloading the Blood Dragon Armor and Stone Prisoner DLC on release day, because i preordered the game for PS3. I will probably download Warden's Keep very soon after.

So 82 dollars to get the full game at launch huh? No thanks. I'm adding the 7 dollars for the Warden DLC since it said it is free for digital deluxe edition, I assume that is the PC version.

I refuse to buy any game that promotes DLC content before the retail version of the game is available. It could be the new Metal Gear or whatever.

Hard to get upset about DLC being added to what looks to be a massive, massive game.

Bioware is not known for making good RPG's they are known for making the BEST RPG's please dont tell me that you all have forgot Baulders Gate, Star Wars KOTOR, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect. If all other games are $60 a piece on consoles then with quality gameplay and storylines that bioware games offer we're lucky they don't charge $90 for their games Dragon age will be another classic in the great library of Bioware titles

anyone else notice in the last section the call the PS3 "PlayStation 3 'computer' and entertainment system" while they call the 360 "Xbox 360 'videogame' and entertainment system"?

Huh. Before the Blood Armor was only going to be on PC and the 360. I'm not complaining that it's going to be on the PS3 version. That's pretty cool, I just find it odd is all.

Compairing this and Mass Effect, there is just something off about the character models that I am having a hard time getting around. Maybe I just haven't seen enough of it, but there is just something so... odd about the way everyone look, especially their faces. Maybe it's because everything about Mass Effect was artificial and this is very fantasy, but there is just something off about it.

That out of the way, free DLC with full priced purchase seems like a win-win for me. If you want it, you get it new, if it really doesn't matter to you that much, you get it used. I'll wait to pass judgement and my money along. They have me for $60 down for ME2, this one will be a bit more work.
