Welcome to Morning Hangover -- an excellent way to start your day with the crew at TheFeed...no matter what you're recovering from. Every morning you'll hear musings from our editors and have the chance to share your thoughts on what's going on in the gaming world. So buckle up, throw a Pokeball at the new week, and keep reading!

Halo 3: ODST PAX 2009 Brian Jarrard Interview

Patrick Klepek: I knew the moment I published a piece vigorously defending Halo 3 ODST and its brighter qualities, there would be a deluge of feedback from readers about its price point. I'd debated bringing up the price point and value assessment in that piece, but that wasn't what I wanted to talk about. It came up anyway, though, and while I want to address where price factors into the equation in a later post, here's a quick one: how much would you have preferred Halo 3 ODST to cost?

You can't say free.

Morning Hangover #70 -- Andrew Hearts Pearl Jam, Patrick Considers Reactions To Halo 3 ODST's Price

Andrew Pfister: I am writing this a few hours before last night's Pearl Jam concert in Los Angeles. As you're reading this, that's already happened. Temporaly confused? So am I, but it doesn't matter, because Pearl Jam rocks through space and time...and also Rock Band. Their new album "Backspacer" is available in full for download shortly after the release of the album itself, and with the already announced project that will incorporate fan-voted live tracks, now's a very good time to be part of the "Jamily." (Ugh, 19 years later and that's still a terrible name.) I'm realizing, mostly with horror, that there's an entire generation of young rockers who don't really know the band but would absolutely love them, and hopefully their presence in Rock Band will open up some ears.

TheFeed gang wants your thoughts on gaming, tech, how far behind America is with snacks, and more. Let everyone know what you're thinking and chat it up with your fellow readers. Leave comments on anything and everything that's on your (gaming/tech/nerd) mind!

    Halo in general sucks.

    ODST was a rip-off.

    Pearl Jam rocks, ALWAYS.

It's a recession for EVERYONE. Not everyone on the Bungie staff is a BILLIONAIRE they have to feed their families to. Just because they have over a million dollar corporation doesn't mean they walk around saying "A million for you,a million for you,and so on and so forth.

    Dear G4,

On behalf of myself and fellow Feed readers, I would like to ask that Raymond Padilla be given chance to write a final farewell article. A chance for him to properly and professionally express any passing thoughts as he leaves this community and moves on to further endeavors. Many of the people that support this site have found immense enjoyment in following it because of writers like Raymond. His wit, intelligence and ability to connect with us on a personal level are what makes our thoughts and comments feel warranted and appreciated. Allowing us to interact with him in a formal article will serve as a proper route of showing our support; instead of using other articles that hold no relevance to the subject to voice our thoughts and warm wishes. Thank you for your consideration.

    Patrick,

you shouldnt be writing for any gaming site. you are not a gamer, more like a paid lobbyist for the regurgitation of stale gameplay. You have really SHAMED gamers with that "article". It is disgusting what you and the people you work for have done.

You condone the scaming by bungie and microsoft with that "article".

I usually dont have much in the way of contempt for the writers here, but you have really blown that out of the water.

Where is your "Dear Gaming industry, we need more games like Uncharted 2" and where is your "Dear Gaming industry, we need more expansions like the ones Blizzard puts out, you know REAL EXPANIONS."

If you look at it honestly, Halo 3 really didnt bring all that much to the table that Halo 2 brought. ODST brings even less, with the rehashed multiplayer. The graphics havnt improved at all. The only thing that ODST improved was the voice acting. As much as I like Nathan Fillion, he doesnt make that game worth the price point.

So in leaving, you suck Patrick and anyone else who condones this bitchslap to gamers.

I agree with Patrick's original point that developers should take more risks with their games, but I still wouldn't have payed more than $40 bucks for ODST. However, the price wasn't Bungie's decision, so people need to stop blaming them.

I can't quite figure out M$ strategy for this game. Bungie made it for the die hard Halo fans. If people are die hard Halo fans then they probably already have Halo 3. So if those people have Halo 3 then they already have the multiplayer on ODST's second disc, minus the DLC map packs and the 4 exclusive maps. Given ODST's entire package, then it most likely is worth the $60 price tag. But I think disc 1 should have been released by itself for $30.

I would pay... nothing for ODST. Shooters aren't my kind of thing (unless they're funny like Timesplitters)

I would have gladly paid 39.99 for ODST. Money is tight right now and I need to get my hands on the sexy new PS3.

I would pay no more than $40 for it. Looks to me like I'll be renting it from gamestop.

Marc Emery *The Prince of Pot* is sitting in a Canadian prison right now awaiting extradition to the USA. He was a target of the DEA and was considered the #1 threat in all of the world. All he did was sell CANNIBUS SEEDS to willing adult consumers, many of which live in states where marijuana is decriminalized. He will be sentenced to a 5 years in Federal prison. Please go to the Cannibus Culture website, do some research and support an innocent man!!

I know this a random post but G4 has covered 420 in the past and politicians like Governor Schwarzenegger are pushing for there to be at least a debate over legalization. It's time for citizens of the USA and Canada to make their voices heard over this victimless crime.

I might have bought ODST for just the campiagn for $10. If ODST was the campiagn and Firefight I would have paid $20. I dont care about Halo 3 online so the addition maps dont mean crap to me. There was absolutly no way I would ever pay $60 for any Halo game and definitely not for a 4 hour campiagn.

I grew up loving Pearl Jam and haven't heard the new album... but have you seen the terribly cheesy commercial they did for Target? It's the worst! They look like over the hill rockers being all cheesy playing their cheesy song. Terrible! I almost felt bad for them. I hope their new album doesn't sound like that song. So bad.

I get that you love Shadow Complex shockwave562, and you seem to be willing to pay $100 for a game if you really love it. I am sure many people would do that too. The problems is that in the future the developers of games like the recent G.I Joe would want to charge $80 for a crappy game because consumers are so willing to spend their money.

While you say that Halo went out on a Limb and made ODST, Its still Halo, You run jump shoot and throw grenades, Things like Bioshock and Assassins Creed deserve to be called daring and out side of the box becuase there is nothing out there like them. ODST and all of the other 378 FPS games that came out this year are really original.....::insert sarcasm::

@ Woz (cause somehow I can't use the FARKING REPLY BUTTON!!!)

Nope, don't think NIN would be the band it is without Trent Reznor, similarly Cure wouldn't be the band without Robert Smith.

    Too true. :)

$40.00. The thing is, I feel like they are pricing it at that point because that's what most other games are priced at. Frankly, that's a poor excuse. You even said in your article, this game was made in 1 year! That is indeed very very impressive, which was your point, but by the same token, that means it cost a lot less to make than a 2-4 year game project, yet they priced it at the same price point.

1- Is it a great game? Obviously subjective, but I like it.
2- Should devs try to make games that are high quality, but shorter and using existing tech? I think that some should do this, its a nice way to get more mileage (and satisfy fans) faster with quality work. I don't think all devs/games should do this.
3- Should it have been priced the same as Halo 3? I don't think so.
