At Tokyo Game Show 2009, Tecmo was showing off Quantum Theory, a game that most people are calling the Japanese take on Gears of War. To find out more about what Tecmo is thinking with Quantum Theory, we shoved the game's director, Makoto Shibata, into a chair during the show and asked him to explain himself. Go!

why was gears 2 such a massive disappointment for everyone? i thought it was a fun game, maybe not the best i've ever played, but certainly not bad.

Quantum Theory has massive identity issues. Some of those might be cleared up before the game's release date, but it looked like a Gears of War from Japan (in a bad way) when it was announced, it looks like a Gears of War from Japan (still in a bad way) when I played it at 50% completion. I'd like to give the game the benefit of the doubt, but at this stage, it's tough.

This game has promise. The gameplay where the tower is changing around you as you're in battle is pretty crazy.

While Gears of War 2 was a huge disappointment for me, this game looks awkward and clunky. It's still in development though, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Since this is a PS3 exclusive we know that there will be no game breaking lag and glitches online and since it's a PS3 exclusive we know that the game will have dedicated servers which means no host advantages. That already makes this game better than Gears 2 so stop with the comparisons please.
