Rumors of a price cut for the Wii have swirled for months, as sales numbers for the Wii have dipped. Nintendo pulled back Wii's price point to $199 as of September 27, a $50 drop for the console. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told the Financial Times the cut was designed for "fence sitters," consumers interested in video games but who do not currently own a game console.
“There are literally millions of consumers out there who want a Wii and had been on the sidelines,” he said, discussing the sales response with the publication. "They’d been waiting for that little nudge to go out and pick it up - the price decline, the sampling, the launching of key software like Wii Fit Plus - we believe it’s what’s pushing them over the edge to get into the category.”
Do you know of anyone who's been pushed into buying a Wii because of the cut?

I gave my original Xbox to my nephew 3 yrs ago when I got the 360. He played it night & day. Then 1 yr. later his parents got him a Wii for xmas he played that till the novilty want south and He realized that the better games are on the xbox. So he is back playing the xbox. So do not waste your money on the Wii. Just my opinion.

I think Nintendo's demagraphics is children.Nintendo has stopped a long time ago to focus on hardcore.Ever since the N64 days (like 13 years ago)they stopped focusing on the hardcore. So you have childish games that Nintendo is making. The only games that can save Nintendo is Mario and Zelda.Other then that Nintendo is dead.Nintendo boxed them selves in a corner by not focusing on the hardcore. If another generation goes by that they dont focus on the hardcore then you will see Nintendo looked upon as a once-was company and be viewed as a childish company-If not viewed that way already.

By casual, they mean wont notice the incredible flaws in precision and the unresponsiveness of motion. IMO the sensor bar should've been two pieces, for two opposite corners of the screen, that way, the pointer would be perfect and not have to adjust to size.

Anyone who wants any of the three consoles should already have it, unless of course you got a red ring recently.

It's long been a belief in the gaming industry that $199 is the "magic" price point that will usually get most fence sitters to finally commit to getting a gaming console. So since Microsoft already beat them to it, I'm sure Nintendo is just making sure they keep pace with them ASAP.
I still think it seems a bit odd that with this Wii price drop, it's now only $30 more than the DSi. Just doesn't seem right for some reason...

The wii is total garbage. There is nothing to play on it. Tell me when the Wii is 50$.
I remember this guy said that Wii has better graphics then xbox 360 he claimed that the Wii won a lot of awards on graphics. Even thought the wii never won anything. What a idot.

Nintendo is running scared at this point. Now they see that their sales could be eclipsed by the 360 or the PS3 so they want to widen the price gap, however the Wii is losing its appeal to people, most hardcore gamers. So all they're trying to do is aim it at those who haven't played a new next-gen system, they have the sales to do it so it won't hurt them. But its inevitable that the Wii will lose its spot.

I have wanted a Wii since they came out. I don't think $200 is cheap enough for me just yet. The problem that I have is that I would rarely play it by myself. If I had friends and family over then we would play it a lot I'm sure but that doesn't happen too much these days. It would end up collecting dust like my Guitar Hero games do. If I am going to play, it is going to be Gears 2, Uncharted 2 next week, or MW2 and AC2 in November. HD gaming all the way for me. But we must all admit (even if it makes you angry) that Nintendo has mad skills when it comes to selling products. They have the innovative mind to capture a lot of people's money. Plus, the competition between the big 3 companies just means that we get more games, more innovation, and lower prices.

I'm on the fence as I post, However that isn't the wii purchase fence. It's the upcoming PS3 games purchasing fence. So many great games coming to the PS3 and not a cent to spare for the Wii. My $200 can better be spent on Operation flashpoint:Dragon Rising, MAG, Heavy Rain, The Last Guardian, COD4:MW2, Drake 2 and Assasin's Creed.
The fence isn't so much for which games I want to purchase so much as the fence I have to jump in order to get away from my wife who'll be pissed at me spending so much cash on all those games.

The Wii has 7-8 games that most pure gamers would find to be fun. The PS3 has one game that pure gamers are excited about. As a single system it's ok for about 6 months and then you'll need more or if you have a life you'll be just fine.
Ok,I'm outta here. I need to finish Saints Row 2 so I can be ready for the new GTA IV DLC!

I regret buying my Wii on launch day.
It hasn't amounted to very much

It may be cheap but when you've got nothing to play on it, that 200 bucks starts to look like it'd be suited elsewhere. I don't want my game console to tell me I'm fat and I need to work out, my girlfriend does that already.

Again, you guys are missing the point. Nintendo doesn't need to bow out. They aren't losing anything. Nintendo is on a completely different level because they are offering a completely different product. On top of that, they have shown themselves to be quite capable of detereming what their market wants; it's the reason they have sold so many consoles with both the Wii and the DS.
Let me put this as simple as I can: Not liking something does not mean that it has to change. Nintendo is not the one with the problem. They like their machine and are happy with it. Their fans love their wii and are happy with it. People spouting off that Nintendo needs to bow out and just focus on software have no idea what they are talking about. While it may not be on par technically with the rest of this generations consoles, they have shown far and away that when it comes to getting their product into people's homes, they are second to no one.
Specifically @Notafanboy - The argument is not hollow. Nintendo does not need to stay competitive because the audiences are different. If this were a direct competition, Nintendo wins in the only categories that companies care about... Sales and the bottom line.
Xsnipe2killX
Since when is 480p next gen graphics. I saw the wii in action at my friends house on a 50 inch tv and it looks awlfull. NO TY!
Notafanboythatiknow
Nintendo is a machine that can satisfy the needs of casual players. Wii games can be fun, but a more hardcore gamer will be bored after a while. I had a Wii and played only Mario Kart Wii most of the time. Nintendo should accept that the Wii cannot satisfy hardcore gamers and gamers used to next-gen gaming. If Nintendo wants to stay competitive, it needs to launch a next-gen console soon and make another Zelda game.
LarcenousLaugh
Seriously, just cause it doesn't suit your style of play, doesn't mean that someone who likes it is uneducated or a kid. There are plenty of people, especially juding by the sales the you fanboys seem to love so much, that enjoy what the wii provides for them, a casual gaming experience that they do not have to invest a lot of time in. There is a reason that the Wii is number one, and that's because they cater to a much larger, less elitest audience.
BONERJAM
I didn't realize this was the "PS3 and 360 fanboys hold hands, sing, dance and generally spout off nonsense while bashing people who like to game on more than one system" thread.
GamerbyDesign
Can anybody drop me a line when the Wii gets to $99? That when I would think about jumping into it. This is nothing more than a GameCube that has 480P on every game, motion controllers, and online play.
GingerKid
The only people buyin Wii's now are the uneducated non-gamer parents buying them for their young kids.
