Vote On Whether Resident Evil 5's New Content Should Be DLC Or In A New Box

The additional content announced for Resident Evil 5: Alternate Edition at Tokyo Game Show, which has Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine teaming up for a prologue mission against archenemy Albert Wesker, is coming to both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In Japan, Capcom will be issuing a brand-new box with the additional content , but no decision has been made for over here. Why? Because Capcom isn't sure whether it should release a new package or downloadable content.

"Bsed on the success of the RE5 'Versus' downloadable content, as well as digital-only titles like Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and Marvel VS Capcom 2," said Capcom head of public relations Chris Kramer on the Unity blog, "we know that the demand for DLC in the west is huge. More and more, gamers in North America and Europe want content immediately and are less inclined to be tied to boxes and packages."

In a freshingly honest move, Capcom is asking gamers to vote on its website. It's unclear how much influence the vote will have on the overall decision, but given Capcom USA's embracing of digital distribution in the past, if an overwhelming amount of gamers would like to purchase the content through a download service, it seems likely to happen.

The company did pull a similar move with Bionic Commando Rearmed, asking gamers to vote for what price they would pay for the downloadable remake. Capcom picked the price gamers voted for.

"Once we get it all sorted, we'll report back with an official announcement," said Kramer.

Go vote!

New Box-If it is comeing out as a box we will be waiting next year just for it.It will cost $59.00 dollar but,a DLC will cost way lower than that like $9.00.The DLC can come out early and cheap.Just because they have some new mission doesn't mean they have to make a different game. Some people have the collector kind but,now their a different one. This will take time away for a idea for Resident Evil 6.So comeing out with a new box isn't very good.DLC-it can save on your harddrive and memory card.It cost cheaper then a new box and it just a mission. These people have to wait next year for it.A DLC can come out this year so,DLC work more better.Their also people who don't have online can just buy a month of online which cost $7.99 dollar.Buy your self a computer modem to connection back of the Xbox360 and their you have it.It will cost lower than $34.00 dollar for a computer modem and month of online. So I CHOOSE DLC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this dlc crap is such a touchy subject. just as much as it depends on where youre coming from with film issues, this art form will change and mold into where people see it in their lives. so heres my stance on the issue: i hate the idea of dlc and ive hated it since its inception. the "way" i look at it, if a film is released and ten minutes before the end they warn you that you will have to pay an extra $4.99 for the last ten minutes, it would destroy alot of what i think makes movies so special. i, personally, have always viewed games the same way. you put together whatever ride you want the consumer to go on, and then you release it. the gamer then pops it in and experiences your vision, or atleast the most you could do in the time you had. and then thats it. you move on to your next project. you dont add an hour or two, and tell me to pay. expanding on your vision, you dont release incomplete material. this hurts me. now i become weary of what i buy when i buy it because im not sure if the super deluxe awesome version will come out two weeks later. so thats my stance. this whole world of dlc almost bugs so much, i get kinda sick and quite angry. but to me its a story telling medium, and that matters alot to me. i guess thats why it bothers me so much....

RE 5 wasn't the best game of the year, but the gameplay was fun. STORY SUCKED.
I'd buy it as DLC, its what makes my sister happy.

Capcom should do this with Super Street Fighter IV as well. release the new characters via DLC instead of having us buy a new game.

Either way Capcom is going to charge you are an uncompleted game and then charge you again for the rest of the game. I'm glad I stopped giving money to Capcom and their nickel and dime juggernaut.

I find DLC(especially on the 360) to be FAR more constricting than any boxed format for me personally.. being tied down to a single system with its proprietary hard drive nullifies its marginal advantages IMO.

If money is an issue to some, both would be the best solution if one couldn't use a credit card and only has pure cash. While if die hard fans like myself want the content right there in my own home, then DLC is also the way to go. Really, its split right down the middle, it just depends on how much the company wants to spend on getting the content out.

were is the option to add the new content to RE6 in stead of adding it to RE5? i would much rather have a sequel then having to pay for an already released game with a couple add ons. and this way we don't have to download anything and waste hard drive space. It's a Win Win solution!

What I'm wondering is just how much new content there is and what the price on a new box would be. Full price would be ridiculous from what has been mentioned, and so far there doesn't seem to be enough to warrant buying the game over. From just what I've read I'd have to go with DLC.

Im on the middle side with having it as DLC. If the reviews are good I will DLC it because I like the lazy factor. If the DLC is bad its still DLC = DontLikeContent. RE6 = Bring back the real zombies PLEASE. I dont like the ones that can talk and work.

I don't have the game yet, I'm waiting for a used copy. Anyway it all depends on how much content there is. I'll always prefer a disc copy so anyone wanting DLC is wrong. Discs are far better. If it's small then DLC is ok because the media costs more than the game itself. On the other hand if it's large it'll eat tons of disk space.

DLC? Lets talk about fixing this garbage game RE5. Up to this point I was always a huge RE fan. RE5 absolutley killed it for me. I wanna know how it ends just not waste the time to actually play it.

I already sold my RE5 game. After what they did with selling us content that was already on the disc, I doubt I ll buy another Capcom game for a while.
