Fable III May Use Natal Motion Controller

Peter Molyneux is something of a gaming visionary, so it comes as no surprise that he might be toying with the idea to include Microsoft's new Project Natal motion control peripheral in the next installment of the Fable franchise. Of course, being the shrewd businessman that he is, Molyneux made sure it was very clear that this is not confirmed as of yet. Speaking to Game Kings, Molyneux clarified...

"I am going to say it's going to use a controller, but I never said it's not going to use Natal...Let me get this absolutely straight: I have not said that we're not going to have Natal in Fable 3. All I have really said is that it is a controller experience but that doesn't mean that there isn't going to be Natal in it..."

However, Molyneux couldn't resist tossing out a cheeky side comment hinting at the possibility.

"Do you really think, knowing me as you may have over the years, that I wouldn't want to use something like Natal? I mean that's just mad, man."

Mad indeed. Considering we don't even know what Fable III will be all about, it's hard to speculate about anything at this point. However, if you put the hints and rumors together, one can assume we will be playing as the king or queen of Albion with control of the whole kingdom at our fingertips. Throw the possibility of Natal compatability into the mix, and you could easily imagine dismissing peasants with a flip of your hand, ordering troops into battle with a strong arm forward, or celebrating a great victory with your fist in the air. Much more fun than pressing the X button.

I am on the fence about Natal. I would have to try it for myself to see what it can or cannot do. Even with that said; I would not want to have to move around flapping my arms & legs all the time to play my games after a long hard day at work. I want to sit down on my couch & pick up my controller & relax with a little GTA or Fable or Forza. So if they used Natal in little ways with the controller then maybe, but I will not be buying Natal day one.

Peter, if you force me to buy additional [censored] hardware, make stupid [censored] gestures with my hands and stuff like that then you can take Fable III and shove it up your [censored] because I wont be buying it. I do not care if you include Natel as an option I can choose or disable but do not force it on me.

Fable is the SOLE REASON I became an X-box owner. I bought the Crystal Edition of X-Box 1. First game I bought Fable. Bought Lost Chapters too. Then bought Fable 2 CE. I hope you don't ruin it.

I don't see how this will work ... and am none too sure about natal! If Molyneux isn't careful he's going to wreck a great series. Here are my suggestions on how to make the next game better...http://megabits-of-ga ming.blogspot.com/2009/08/fabl e-iii-is-coming-heres-how-you- make.html - let me know what you think!

This sounds awful but with his track record. Don't expect half of the stuff he says to be in the game. He's a hype man. Kind of like boxing and club promoters.

I don't think there is a Natal "controller".

Natal doesn't have a "controller". You just get to flail your hands and feet around, looking silly.

I hope all these motion control games have the option of standard control. Whether a game is on PS3 or 360, I would still like the option of playing with the controls I have grown to know. Motion control is just too much of a gimmick to me.

I like most veteran gamers am very comfortable with my controller. Waving your arms around like a psychopath seems to be really popular with the casual crowd and I'm fine with that (more casual gamers = less idiots calling games murder simulators); but I think the tech and the ability to implement the same accuracy as a controller is a long way off (just look at the Wii). That said a few Natal based minigames thrown into a game based around a controller might be a nice break of pace from time to time. Fable 2 is actually a good example of a great game with dull mini games that could have benefited from something like Natal.

One of the Devs at Lionhead that posts on their forums was stating rather adamantly that Natal wasn't going to be implemented. Now after a post in their forum he's "not confirming anything either way...not my place. I am staying away from Natal threads from now on. Might happen, might not. Let's leave it to the bosses to decide."

    The plot thickens?

I am not a fan of Fable, XBOX 360 or Natal... But would someone please kindly explain to me how Natal would work with an open world game, or even more so in a first person shooter?

There are a few problems I see that the developers at Lionhead Studios will have. First off... movement... how do you move without ending up knocking into you TV? Next up... direction... how do you turn without facing away from your TV? Their would have to have a cursor on screen, and as the cursor moves towards the edge of the screen, the view would change, but then, how slow would that be, having to move to the edge of the screen and back to center every time you want to turn? Lastly, in the midst of flailing limbs, if you are going to make gestures for every command, isn't it quicker, easier and less flamboyant to press a single button?

I don't like motion controls in general, but this is just ridiculous...

Why don't I feel that interested in Fable III? I love the Fable series, as disappointing as they can be (the hype for Fable II gave me unrealistic expectations, not to mention all the lies from Peter, "If you see it, you can go there" ya, right). I suppose I have to give it more time. Wait, I feel a spark, oh boy now I'm excited. I would be very surprised if Lionhead didn't take advantage of Natal.

I hate to tell Fable fans this but this game is probably going to feature Natal controls prominently. At Gamescon in Europe Mr. Molyneux kept talking about a dynamic touch system that will allow you to comfort your people. Also many noted that he constantly was explaining it by using his hands to show how the touching works. Hmmmmmm. Also remember he is working on the Milo thing to. At this point I will be surprised if it doesn't feature heavy use of natal.
