DotA Developer Joins Valve Software, Leading

Icefrog, one of the developers of the immensely popular WarCraft III map Defense of the Ancients, has reportedly joined Valve Software and is now "leading a team" at the studio, according to a post on the DotA website.

"My goal and top priority in the future is to solve the surrounding issues that affect the DotA experience in order to allow it to reach new heights. Addressing these issues will enable us to further enjoy aspects of DotA such as the gameplay, mechanics, and in-game feel that currently work well and ought to be maintained. As I've said many times in the past and especially after today's developments, I am very excited about DotA's future!"

It is unclear if this means that Icefrog is working on DotA with other developers at Valve, if Valve will be developing their own DotA-type game, or if he is assigned to a different game. I kind of want to see Left 4 DotA. Icefrog took over development of DotA from Guinsoo in 2005. Guinsoo is now working over at Riot Games on League of Legends.

We've reached out to Valve Software for confirmation and we'll bring you any updates we receive. It's always great to hear about mod developers being hired, especially by top-tier studios. Hopefully, this is true.

Update 11:24 AM PST: Valve Software has confirmed the story, simply stating, "True".
