Heavenly Sword Developer New Game Revealed

A while back, it was announced that Namco Bandai and developer Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword) would be teaming up for a new project, and thanks to some newly revealed details, we now know what that project is. It’s a post-apocalyptic tactical action title called Enslaved being developed for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 due out next year.

The game takes place in America 250 years in the future, and follows the begrudging partnership between a brawns-over-brains dude named Monkey and brains-over-brawn gal named Trip, who end up fighting alongside each other after escaping from a band of slavers. Obviously, Monkey’s strength means he’ll be doing most of the heavy lifting (and smashing, thanks to his trusty staff) while the AI-controlled Trip will handle the computer hacking and other tech-related activities.

Actor Andy Serkis, who did motion capture for Heavenly Sword and portrayed King Bohan in the game, will supply and oversee Monkey’s movements. Heavenly Sword composer and British music producer Nitin Sawhney has signed on to do the game’s score, while 28 Days Later scribe Alex Garland will be co-writing the game’s script.

It appears that Ninja Theory and Namco have assembled  a pretty stellar crew for this thing, and while I’m this close to being over stories set in post-apocalyptic settings, I’m interested to see if the developers can successfully pull off the whole primitive/futuristic duality idea, because that’s always a compelling conflict, and it's something that I've wanted to see executed well in video game form for a long time.

Any preliminary thoughts on Enslaved? What did you think of Heavenly Sword? And what do you hope is different in the new game?

The female reminds me of Nariko with shorter hair.
I hope they make this on the PS3 and then just port it to the Xbox. . .
I want this game to look as good as Heavenly Sword.

Finally, something new to hear about for 2010. The game looks great, didn't play Heavenly Sword, but want to. I might get it in a couple of weeks when I have some cash. Could really care less if it has CO-OP in it, if it does, great, if not, I'm not crying. Visuals look stunning, reminds me of the Uncharted games (kinda). Hopefully, the game Enslaved lives up to the great screenshots released.

With the whole city overgrown, you will more than likely be able to visit landmarks and have them be misenterpreted. This holds great potential for epic boss fight areas, a sence of alienation, and comical dialouge.

Heavenly Sword is one of my personal favorites and the most underrated game of this console gen in my opinion.

Ninja Theory is an extremely talented studio that excels in great storytelling. I am extremely anxious to see how Enslaved turns out.

Heavenly Sword was great! To me, that game has some of the best visuals to date. My complaint was the short game and fighting that purple flying idiot. Too bad, they aren't making a sequel. This game looks promising.

    Looks pretty cool.

On the subject of Heavenly Sword: When the biggest complaint about a game is that it was too short, you know you made a good game.

Heavenly sword was short but a fantastic game...felt like you ere in a movie. emotion driven story. co-op I can do without but I do hope you get to play as another character like in heavenly sword where you get to play as both nariko and kai. twing-twang anyone? But looking at these screen shots...why does it look inferior graphically to heavenly sword...nontheless...ninja theory has got this on my radar
