Uncharted 2: Among Thieves doesn't come out until October 13, but it's already having a feature removed. The PlayStation 3 action game was designed to easily hook up with Twitter and automatically alert your online tweet-friends when you complete a chapter. That's marginally annoying as a concept, but apparently, in execution, it's even worse.
Reviewers with advance copies of the game who used the feature found very quickly that it alerts your friends a lot -- sometimes at a rate of several times per hour. Presumably, this is too much and does not make you an internet hero that everyone loves.
So if you buy Uncharted 2 at release, you will still find the Twitter option in the game's menu, but it will not work. Naughty Dog promises they'll release a patch to reactivate the feature soon after release, but will add a limit on the frequency of updates.
In keeping with the times: Naughty Dog offered this Twitter-perfect, 140-character version of the news:
Heard concerns about Twitter chapter updates for UNCHARTED 2. We’ve just disabled it but will patch soon to reactivate with frequency limits
I seriously can not stand any kind of Twitter or Facebook auto-updates. (I don't care how Mafia Wars is going for you, buddy!) I immediately hide anyone who uses those kind of auto things -- what a waste of my time! What about you? Do you use any auto-updater thing? Will you try out the Uncharted 2 feature?
