G4tv.com's Feedback -- Week of September 21st, 2009: Tokyo Game Show Edition!

A very good friend at a former place of employment once described what it was like to be in Tokyo during September for TGS: "Hell Hot." Reports back from the team indicated that the weather this week was actually not so bad, but when the Makuhari Messe turned off the air conditioning on the show floor just as the gang was ready to tape this week's episode of Feedback, the definition of "Hell Hot" became a whole lot clearer.

But Billy, Morgan, Patrick and Sterling are seasoned professionals, and after the sweat and tears (mostly sweat), our Tokyo Game Show episode of Feedback is ready for your enjoyment. Let's positive show-watching!

  • Did Sony drop the ball on their home turf? Should Microsoft have been a little more aggressive? Should somebody, anybody have announced something exciting?
  • Are we impressed with Sony's "Harry Potter Wand" (as Patrick calls it) and its implementation in Resident Evil 5 and LittleBigPlanet?
  • Sterling got to see both Okamiden and Ghost Trick during his Capcom visit. I am already re-charging my DS in anticipation.
  • Morgan and Patrick got to play Crackdown 2 deathmatch, and I couldn't be more jealous. It's also reassuring that Ruffian Games told Morgan that they "wouldn't ruin it." Nice to know!
  • Billy's raving over the new Final Fantasy XIII trailer (that Square still hasn't released publicly), which again generates debate over the group's respective excitement levels.
  • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker looks completely awesome, which is unsurprising because it's a follow-up to MGS3 (the real best game in the series). Watch our First 15 13 minute video here.
  • We're changing the show's theme song to "Auld Lang Syne" apparently.

If a Japanese TV hostess was at E3 talking about how stupid first-person shooters were, do you think gamers in Japan would call her a embarrassment to their country?

She comes off like since it doesn't like it she believes other Americans won't like it. You can have your opinion, but yes people will like these games. I also think that she is closed minded. There is so many possibilities with the Natal camera! I a hardcore gamer and I want Natal now!

To any one who thinks Final Fantasy character designs are "weird and unattractive" or has a problem with the story. Maybe if you didn't go in to a JRPG with preconceived western notions of how characters and stories should be then you would be able to accept them better. If you just cant stomach how the protagonist in most JRPGs lookkind of hadroganistic androgynistic guess what. Thats how japanese men look. Square Enix is a japanese company so of course there characters will reflect the culture and stile of there home country. And it is ridicules to say that you KNOW FF13 wont be a big hit in america seeing how well received all the other games were in the u.s. They have a huge following in america despite cultural differences because american fans are a bit more open minded than the "It looks weird" people. And if you are trying to say that it wont expand beyond the already established fan base, let the combat mechanics decide that. I have seen game play and it looks fast past and exiting wile keeping to beloved RPG elements. If that isn't enough to win over a few closed minded people then so what. I mean despite the 13 on the label it actualy is the 20 something FF game and like the 30 something JRPG in total , so if some one has not been cared about it yet then they just will never be intreged by a JRPG no matter what character designs the choose. Why make a hameburger for vegitarians.

I have to agree with the sentiment that Morgan was very pessimistic this episode. There was nothing at all that she was excited about. Nothing at all caught her attention. Maybe they just caught her in a bad mood... whatever it was... it just wasn't very appealing to hear her rip into everything. Usually these Feedbacks have a bit more intelligent discussion. She is usually better than this on X-Play... but she was just so jaded in this segment. Its not so much that she didn't like games... but if you're going to dislike something... and you're a member of the press... you should be a bit more articulate as to why you don't like it. Her responses were just so shallow. I think that more than anything is what is making people angry. I can ask any casual person why they don't like something and be satisfied with a shallow response... but when I go to a "gaming expert" then I expect something a bit deeper. Im just sayin... Oh and I do share Morgan's dislike of disney.. but Kingdom Hearts is an awesome franchise. Also... Billy.. next time put your mic further up your shirt... your voice was so low was b/c you had the mic much lower than everyone else.

These people who are saying that Morgan is a jaded, idiotic, Debbie downer must really care about what she has to say, because if they did not care then they would not post anything.

    Remember, it is a opinion.

id just like to know if morgan actually likes anything.

or if she can actually piece together more criticism than "im not attracted to the characters, therefore, i hate the game."

it would be one thing if she could talk about something like the battles, or menu systems, or story, or something that should actually matter. but to just ignore a game because its characters dont look the way you wish they would? and then have the gall to actually assume that the only people who will play this are FF fanboys?

    thats pretty much bull.

Ill be interested to see how final fantasy 13 shapes up. 10 was the last one I played I know cut scenes are a big part of what square does but some of them in 10 where just wayyyyyy to long, as in I stopped watching and decided to go make myself a lunch, eat it, wash the dishes and then come back to the living room and the damn cut scene was still playing.

In a game that takes 70 hours to complete, I would like to play at least 10 of them...just say'n!

First: Morgan is seriously jaded...she likes nothing. Final Fantasy looks amazing! and she used to like FF games.

Second: was that the new years music in the background for the first half of the show??

@Morgan Webb, You may have had to buy 3 Ps2's but they still didn't have a 54% failure rate now did they?

The whole motion control argument I believe was fairly resolved with Morgan's comment. Natal is going to be like those old webcam games you used to get bundled with any logitech webcam. It's going to be unresponsive, for the casual gamer and for people who just want to say "Oh neat" for twenty minutes. Natal is a joke. It really isn't anything new, if a little more interactive than some of the old webcam technology. I'm impressed with Sony's in that it may not be coming to the board with something revolutionary, but it's a daaamn good upgrade. It's sensitive, supports multiple controllers at once, depth and full range of motion sensing, it's an actually good version of the Wii controller with what looks to be a future of awesome games ahead of it. You're falling behind Microsoft, time to play catchup.

Billy as long as you or Sterlling do the FF13 and Kingdom Hearts news, and not Morgan or Patrick... I'll be happy. Thats not a knock on Morgan or Pat, either. Morgan is one of the few at G4 that actually brings an honest opinion and never tries to pass it on as fact. Morgan supports the Xbox games and she supports the PS3 games. Can't say the same about Pat, but he's articles are always easy reads. He's one of the better journalist at G4.

I just would prefer the reports on games I'm excited about, to have that same excitement shared by the person reporting the previews, the hands-on, etc. So Billy please handle the S-E stuff.

Oh Morgan, FF13 is gonna sell millions in the States, the RPG FF crowd is larger than you think. Plus they're releasing it on Xbox! Forget opening the floodgates, that just broke the levees!

Billy i'm with you on Kingdom Hearts, way to represent, you could of said more but Morgan had to interrupt because she had to say that she hated something.

    Good show.

Morgan can have HER opinion. Its when she talks for Americans as a whole that she needs to shut the hell up. She sould legally change her name to Debbie Downer.
