While checking out an updated version of the Microsoft-developed Facebook application for Xbox Live, I had a chance to ask the company about how (or if) Xbox Live Silver users will have access to either social network. Unfortunately, it’s not good news if you aren’t a paying member.

According to Microsoft, Xbox Live Silver member will only have access to Facebook and Twitter during the “Gold Weekends” that the company rolls out every once and a while. The weekends are designed to encourage Silver members to experience Xbox Live multiplayer and pay to become a Gold member. It is only these periods Silver users will be able to check out Facebook and Twitter.

Sorry, Silver users. There is still no release date for Facebook on Xbox 360.

Hey ps3 guys, does your avatar carry a lightsaber. too bad. I know maybe you can paint one one and pretend. How about the DLC for fallout. Game of the year you wait and see. again too bad. oh I know you can play as the joker, that's cool. I like Batman better and i just have to pop in mks vs dc to play the joker I mean realy. If I want to spen cash on an MMO I can play DC universe online on the PC or mobile on my laptop. PS3 only moves consoles based on thier hardware. Xbox moves consoles based on games and entertainment. You have fun with yours and I have more fun with mine. The red light thing isn't that hard to fix anyway, a moron just needs to go online to youtube to fuigure it out. I know I have fixed a lot of ebay. made a small living off it, people are happy that it got fixed, and work better. Any of you guys making a living off your PS3, not likly. maybe the psp but still hardware not games sell that unit too.

Why do people really care about using Facebook/Twitter on their consoles? What, you don't have access to a PC or a cellphone? Seriously now.

They should start calling silver users "bronze users", or gold users "platinum users". Use psychological tricks to make people upgrade. It'd work I'm sure.

what is really funny was the xbots here that are defending having to pay to use facebook are the same ones that complained about how expensive the PS3 was. Hypocrites

    Xbox elite $299
    Internet connection $50
    Wireless adaptor $100
    Gold account $50

So to get on equal grounding with the vastly superior PS3 you need to spend $499. So even without the price cut the PS3 was a better deal and you also get Blu Ray which the Xbox Red Ring, sorry the Xbox 360 does not have.

They say a sucker is born every minutes, all those suckers must be Xbots. I am going to on Facebook for free right now

I can't believe how much people are complaining about this. I don't know a single person who ONLY has a Silver account. Everybody I know pays for Gold, or they don't go online with their Xbox at all.

Will Facebook on Xbox convince people to buy a Gold membership? Probably not. But is it a pretty cool feature for those of us who already do? Absolutely.

If one wishes to have phone service they pay for it. If the service incorporates call display, forwarding, messages, etc at no extra charge than that is a bonus.

    and correction "device"

Let me get this straight. You NEED to pay gold membership for a service that can be accessed FREE on a PC or PS3? That's highway robbery and xbots are a suckers for being milked, not only that, you're paying for the internet too. Your mommies and daddies are too rich that they let you guys spend all the money that you want.

Newegg sells 12 month xbox live cards for $39.99 which equals 3.33 per month. Alot of people spend that much everyday on snacks. When it was $59.99 per year I thought that was somewhat pricey...but not for the value we get now. People will complain about anything...bunch of cheap arses/haters.

It's not even $8, it's only $3.85/month for the 12+1 month gold live card for $50 that you can get anywhere that sells anything of value.

I beleive that the connection between Facebook & the Xbox360 will be much more than what others give it credit for. For instance...It will be better as far as 360 gaming is concerned and I'm quite sure if they're asking for you to be a gold member to use it, there'll be quite more added to the Xbox360 version than on the previous pc and psn version. And once again, it's really sad if you can't cough up as little as $4 a month for a service as good as Xbox live then you shouldn't be on there or talking about it being not free at all. Besides if you go Gold you get a better offer and you'll stop complaining so much once you see what gold has to offer.

PS: I you are a silver member, stop complaining about the gold membership if you haven't tried it (Which the majority of you haven't) or just stay silver or switch to the corny PS3.

one of the reasons i don't buy into the 360 and MS is because of their incessant nickle and diming. really grinds my gears.

Do MS know you can go on facebook on ps3 and PC? I don't think they do, since they're making a big fuss over this.
