Showing that it has a great sense of humor, Nintendo confirmed a price drop for the Nintendo Wii in the middle of Sony's Tokyo Game Show 2009 press conference. The press release went out while most game writers were paying attention to Sony's announcements in Japan. The company said:
"Beginning Sunday, Sept. 27, the world’s most popular home video game system gets even more appealing. On that day, Nintendo’s suggested retail price for its record-setting Wii drops by $50 to $199.99. The new $199.99 Wii price point delivers the full iconic Wii gaming experience, including the motion-sensing Wii Remote controller, Nunchuk controller and Wii Sports software, and furthers Nintendo’s mission to expand the gaming universe by making video games accessible to more and more consumers."
While this move was expected after a few weeks of rumors and leaks, the timing was amusing. It's nice to see major game companies engaging in frat-like tactics.

for 300, the ps3 is the best deal by far.

$250 was fine, but even for $199 this system is worth getting as a second system or for the casual crowd. So all consoles will now get a bump in sales and then it will settle down again. But now more people will buy in to videogames.

$99 Plzz so i can play TvC

I'm gonna hold out until I get a better sense of what "The Other M" is going to be. I'm a huge Metroid fan; it's why I bought a Gameboy, SNES, and a DS. I'm hesitant about "The Other M". This won't be the first time we were promised a "next-gen Metroid". ....We ended up with the Prime series.
Right now, there just aren't enough "games" in the Wii library to warrant me buying one. The wiimote and nunchuk seems a bit pointless to me when I can just jack Gamecube or classic controller in. What that says is, the Big N isn't ready to commit to motion control. All that is off topic.
Either the price comes down a bit more 150-130 feels right or games that appeal to me....Which ever happens first is when I'll get a Wii. Although..."Rabbids Go Home" has my attention.

Was $50 really holding anyone back from buying a wii?

I had a Wii as one of my first new generation consoles and I enjoyed it. I eventually got a Xbox 360 but I still enjoy playing the Wii. It's not a bad piece of hardware and there are some gems on the system, even though you have to look hard for them. The Wii is not all bad.

This price drop isn't going to make any difference at all. The problem with the wii is that it started out with all of these cool games; wii sports, wii play, mario galaxy, Zelda Twilight, mario kart, super smash brothers brawl, and then after that there was nothing. Nothing on a new star fox game, and nothing more than an announcement on Pikmin 3. They should've had a consistent flow of games other than all of this movie based crap.

Yawn. Now soccer moms can spend more money on buying awful Wii games for their children. I would hate to have my childhood memories of my first console being a Wii.... its just so wrong.
NICKGMAN2010
the wii's technology is barely worth me paying $100
