Earlier today, we (skeptically) reported on the rumor that Microsoft was going to take over video game publisher Electronic Arts. Turns out, it's not true.
"There's no truth to the speculation" said David Dennis, a Microsoft spokesman, "We have no plans to purchase EA."
Well, there you go, and now you know.
Takeover or not, something caused EA's stock to jump like 5% today. Are the world's financial markets really so susceptible to unfounded rumors that a blog post and/or a whispered conversation will really result in the movement of millions of dollars? Or do you think market insiders know something about EA that we do not?

EA sux anyway... I'm only a victim to their NFL exclusive license, other than that, they don't get a penny from me!!!

too bad, because if MSFT did acquire EA, they wouldnt be able to make it a XBOX exlusive (b/c if they did, EA would file for bankrupty faster than hussien bolt can run the 100m dash) so in having to be a tri-partisan owner, thiw would be able to open new opprotunities for the big three, classic exlusive games like mario and zelda could then be bought on PSN and XBLA. also as a advocate PS3 and 360 user it would be good for everyone especially for MSFT

To be honest.. a purchase of a major developer eventually by M$ would not be shocking to me in the slightest. Let's face it.. the 360 started out this generation with guns blazing and churning out original and exclusive(temporary or otherwise) IP's.. but lately they have had a shift to a much lazier strategy of throwing money at temporarily exclusive DLC and pumping out $60 expansions packs to their milked franchises. My point? MS settling for overpaying for other peoples work instead of coming up with their own is pretty much the routine right now..
