I know you're all busy playing Firefight right now, but it's that time of week to sit down and take a minute to listen to the pearls of wisdom spit by The Sess. Adam sits down to discuss Halo 3: ODST and its strangely muted presence in this year's list of big game releases. Does ODST not need a bit marketing push because it's a part of the Halo franchise that always sells well? Or is there another reason? Find out what Sessler thinks, and tell us your thoughts in the comments section.

I don't know what everybody's problem is with ODST. I bought, beat it already as it is a little bit short. The story, what there is of it, is very compelling. The sequences roaming through the city as the rookie aren't the most exciting though. But firefight is a whole hell lot of fun, wish they would have included matchmaking. Firefight imo is better than Gears' Horde more and Waw's Nazi Zombies. Don't know why they didn't include online PvP. Reportedly, the game as been finished since E3 and left out some of these features. 4 out of 5 sounds about right.

Perhaps some of the problem is the complete over saturation of "Exclusive" hands on previews, interviews, and speculation leading up to the release of AAA titles. The website and X-play both almost seem to have a weekly checklist where each of 4 or 5 games must be mentioned or shown, regardless of there being actual news.
When the journalists get super really excited about a game 50 times before it even comes out, people are going to either have too high expectations or be so sick of hearing about it that they have decided to dislike it regardless of its quality.

the odst campaign was sooo boring. im so disappointed that i bought it, wish i had gamefly.

You spent $60 on a game expansion (your own words)? I feel bad for you son. I got 99 problems but ODST ain't one.
klyonawesome
killzone 2 and halo are very different games. I think Halo's biggest problem is COD. Not Killzone.
unluckynumber11
I played ODST, and I liked the campaign better then the Halo 3 one, glad I bought it.

@ lucidity
Compare the sales of Modern Warfare 2 on the 360 only if it makes you feel better. ODST will still fail because MW2 will prove to be a better game.
For someone named lucidity, your thought process is certainly NOT mentally lucid.

I have no idea how they give this game a 5 of 5. I've been a big Halo fan from the start but this game is dated. The "refreshing new take" on the series isn't so refreshing and new if you recognize it being lifted from any number of other games.
Probably just burnt out on Halo, but my copy will be on eBay by the end of the week.

COD4 and Modern Warfare 2, are both perfect examples of what Adam was talking about. They are both games that 80 percent of the people who play it, do so just because everyone else is. The 360 version is, like all console games, for little kids. And the PC version is so boringly easy, ive managed a 3.94 K/D ratio, and ive only put 4 days total into the game, in the 2 years ive owned it.

I love the guy saying that kz2 got 6% higher. ODST is an expansion made in like 2 years and kz2 was a game that took over 4 years to make and it doesnt have another great game like halo 3 to go along with it. Is that 6% higher really looking good now?

hmm. . .haven't seen Mr. XOTY(l33t360) comments yet.
@lucidity:: "last gen expansion pack"
hahaha you're bashing your beloved STD now too?

For me I think ODST is a solid game because it was created from Bungie and they know what they're doing but I also think the Halo franchise has been beaten enough that its really time for something new. It has the success of a Metal Gear game just not the dramatic finish you need when you're done with Master Chief's story. At the least they should start producing other game genres even if they don't end Halo.
Also I wanna see Sessler kick a new crappy game every week instead of that same Wii game.

I too get tired of, because it's got the name "Halo" or "COD" it some how is held to higher standers; BUT it also works in reverse nor should it be good cause it has that name. In short try the game out because you think it looks fun and make up your own mind on the game play.

It's creepy yet awesome to watch a video that states the exact same things you were thinking just before you watch it.

If it would have been just the campiagn dlc for about $10 I would have bought it but I'm not throwing down $60. I dont care about new mp maps because I dont really care about Halo online. The Firefight mode would be fun but without matchmaking it really isn't worth it to me since none of my XBL friends play Halo and like all these "horde" modes do get very boring after awhile. I've saved my money for Rocktober.

WOW! to much thought process in evaluating games. In my humble opinion it should just be judged according to ones taste ie: graphics, story, intensity and more importantly having FUN playing it solo or with friends and family period.

This nonsense is still going on? Didn't we, you know, already come to the conclusion that the review was BS, and that this is a crap entry in an already crap franchise?
Why are we still debating? Why this exercise in futility?

I do not consider myself a Halo fan, but I'll try it out. It's currently on it's way to me from Gamefly (hopefully arriving today).
The thing is, I'm not fond of the frantic pace of the Halo games. I generally prefer a more tactical approach as offered in games like Rainbow Six Vegas or Gears of War. Even in CoD (well, Infinity Ward CoD's anyway) the game allows for you to either run and gun, or creep up slowly and use a more tactical approach.
I did get to play the Firefight mode when the ODST truck was in the Phoenix area. I didn't like that there's no cover mechanic, or at least a lean option so I don't have to expose my entire body to fire. That again goes back to my personal preference of playstyles in a shooter.
That doesn't mean that I think Halo is a bad game. But certainly my own expectations for the game are somewhat muted due to the fact I don't generally care for the playstyle required on a Halo game.

Metacritic
Halo 3: ODST - 85%
Killzone 2 - 91%
