Blur

Well, you can officially throw Bizarre Creations’ power-up-laced racing title Blur onto the “delayed until 2010” pile. As we’ve heard from other developers whose games have been pushed into next year, Activision attributes the delay to wanting to give the game’s developers more time to “fully optimize the vision” they have for the game.

Fair enough. Plus, it will most likely result in a better game, so it's hard to disagree with the move. Of course, it also means that the game won't have to compete against the Activision’s surefire retail juggernaut, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, not to mention the other high profile titles coming out between now and the end of the year. Then again, 2010 is shaping up to be one of the most jam-packed years for gaming in recent memory, so we’ll just have to wait and see if the strategy pays off.

Do you think Blur will perform better or worse now that it’s been pushed to 2010?

Split Second, which still doesn't have a release date, although what I played at PAX seemed pretty far along.

What was the racing game that lets you blow up parts of the track to take down the other drivers? Did that come out and I missed it?

I think all of these delayed games are taking a risk of just eating each other in the next quarter. Halo, MW2, Left 4 Dead, Operation Flashpoint are FPS games and not everyone (although it seems like it) plays Shooters. I can see some of these games slated for Feb,March,April- ending up not coming out until July-Aug and beyond. Assassin Creed 2, Uncharted 2 and Forza 3 will end up doing quite well seeing as they are the only non-FPS AAA titles to be brave enough to come out from under the bed.

Assassins Creed 2 is all that matters right now. Only thing that may take my attention off of it is if a new Rainbow Six: Vegas were announced. With Modern Warfare 2, I personally am getting bored with first person Shooters. Every game seems to be a FPS now a days.

2009 should go down as the year of delay announcements.

Good thing Halo and Call of Duty picked up the slack or this year would have been a complete fail...

I played it at E3, and it can probably use the extra development time. Also, with new additions to the Dirt and Forza series, i can't imagine Blur would've gotten much love at retail.
