Welcome to "Morning Hangover" -- an excellent way to start your day with the crew at TheFeed...no matter what you're recovering from. Every morning you'll hear musings from two of TheFeed's editors and have the chance to share your thoughts on what's going on in the gaming world. So buckle up, get ready to turn Japanese this week, and keep reading!
Stephen Johnson: We have a copy of
DJ Hero set up in our game capture laboratory at this very moment, and after putting it through its paces a bit, I’m going to make a prediction: This is going to be a polarizing game. Some will regard the mash-up simulator as the game of the year, and other people are just not going to get it… like at all.
My reaction: It’s fun, sure, but, basically, it simulates an activity that I have no interest in participating in real life. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see a DJ in a club and think: “I want to be that guy!” So the idea of pretending to be him via a game (and sort of sucking at it, too) just doesn’t appeal: For me, playing DJ Hero gave me the experience of being bad at something I’m not interested in.
If, on the other hand, you have a different aesthetic than I have (and more tolerance for learning a completely new system of gameplay) you’ll be very into the complexity and vibe of DJ Hero. In spite of its attempts to hit a broad audience, I have a feeling DJ Hero is strictly for the hardcore.
Raymond Padilla: As many of you know,
Tokyo Game Show kicks off later this week. As console gaming has become more and more Western, TGS isn't as important as it once was (still a frickin' awesome show though!). In general, Japanese game development and publishing aren't as big as they used to be either. Several Japanese developers and publishers have acknowledged this shift to the West, even
naming their games so that they appeal to gaijin.
I'm probably part of the minority, but to this day, most of the games I love are made by Japanese developers. I want my Final Fantasies, my Pokemons, my Dragon Quests, my Kingdom Hearts, my SmackDown vs. Raws, etc. While I'm thrilled for the success of American, Canadian, and European developers that have made console gaming more Western, I'm a little sad that Japan is no longer the epicenter of the gaming universe (mostly for nostalgic reasons).
So my question for you, on this fine Monday, is where are you favorite game developers from?
TheFeed gang wants your thoughts on gaming, tech, what you're looking forward to at Tokyo Game Show 2009, and more. Let everyone know what you're thinking and chat it up with your fellow readers. Leave comments on anything and everything that's on your (gaming/tech/nerd) mind! The reader with the best comment will get a Hostess pudding pie of his or her choice.

Did anyone read the ODST review/? It mentioned 3-player Co-Op like in Halo 3. Um isn't halo 3 only 2-player Co-op. I have tried that stupid trick that takes perfect timing to do 3 players but can't get it. And when they say Co-Op on ODST it does mean offline right?

DJ Hero just seems like a horrible concept to me. I still have yet to see some footage of someone actually using the "controller", but from past experience with plastic "instruments" I can only assume you'll need to be prepared for copious amounts of plasticy Clacking noises. Those to me are far worse than fingers on a chalk board or someone raking a fork through their teeth (maybe that one just bothers me). But if they were looking for me to play this they missed the mark.

After reading the Review for ODST I am a bit shock to see such a high score for a 4hr of game play. What that guy said was funny if you bump up the difficulty you can at least get 8 hr of game play on it. O.O I can bump up the difficulty on all my games and get 8 hr of game play and more. Firefight isn t something new it s basically copy from Gears of war 2. I expect G4 to give it a high rating on it while others gives it a lower score. Anyways I preorder Uncharted2 and was able to play multiplayer beta. It was freaking awesome now that game is worth 60bucks. Enough about that, is anyone else looking forward to Godofwar1&2 remake and Modnation game? I bought Persona4 since I have b/c on my ps3 this weekend. The game story line is freaking long. In fact I spent about 3hrs of dialog and haven t yet begin to fight. It s a good thing I like anime so it s okay to me so far. Well at least the story line is good.

i dont have a specific answer to your question. there are great developers all over the world. Rockstar and Naughty dog here in the us, Guerrila is sweden or whatever, Square and Konami in japan. Sony has third party studios all over the world. Im neither orientally nor occidentally biased
