Microsoft in Japan is always a wildcard. Who knows if the company will make a big push in Japan this year or scale things back to focus on North America and Europe where its exclusives tend to actually sell. Oh, sure, every once and a while Microsoft releases something (Blue Dragon) in Japan that moves a boat load of consoles, but what will it be this year?
Halo 3: ODST will be getting a worldwide release this week. Will Microsoft try to pimp Halo in Japan again or is it time to let it go? I'm guessing that the game will probably be playable on the show floor, but don't expect a massive showing. Beyond that, there aren't any major exclusives that I can think of that would do big business in Japan. Splinter Cell: Conviction probably doesn't stack up against Metal Gear Solid there... just a hunch.
Forza 3 is set to release at the end of October and could be a good bit of counter-programming to Sony's inevitable push for Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5. You know, the full version. I can tell you what I think will be a big no show... Final Fantasy XIII running on an Xbox 360. Recall, the game will only be released on the PS3 in Japan.
Who knows, though? As I said, MS is a wildcard in Japan. If they decide to take this year seriously we could see a major exclusive announcement that Japanese gamers will be excited about or at least another established PlayStation franchise going multiplatform.
Either way, this could be a good opportunity for Microsoft to show off a bit of Project Natal in the land that birthed the Wii. Will it impress a Japanese audience, though?
What do you want to see from Microsoft in Japan this year?

Eh, who needs Japan. They are more fickle minded than Brett Favre. Maybe the effect of Hiroshima was greater than we though. Yeah, I went there.

360 wont find a home in Japan. Why simple fail hardware and unclear of how long 360 will last until they make a new console. Final Fantasy comes out early on the PS3 and everyone in japan love rpg. Shooting isn't a big thing and the Halo crappy graphic won't warrant any sales in Japan. Even though that game is fun to play Japan look more on Graphics/RPG, vs Shooter games. 360 Haven't had any good RPG and they one that they had fail. Japan already have it in there mind that the 360 have fail and any console made from them will fail. That's just how we are we don't give 2nd chances O.O

@PS3fears360 actually Metal gear Solid Rising is a spinoff and Kojima don't make that game. Still, MGS story is exclusive for a Playstation system.

What ever Happens, I just hope its nothing bad. because we all want positive not negative

Microsoft will try, but obviously all the J games and Nintendo will be making the hit. I am curious though to see if they will announce that new zelda game.

I'm sorry... Splinter Cell never did stack up against Metal Gear Solid and it never will, as far as I'm concerned. Halo is also over-rated. I could say I'm excited for ODST, but, let's face it... That would be a bald-face lie.
Honestly, I think Microsoft needs to hype XBLA and Mass Effect 2 as much as possible because those are the two things I'm really liking with Microsoft right now.

Err... Metal Gear Rising?

i think gaming is going down as a whole. mobile gaming is taking over. next platform should be portable and done right ( second joystick , touch etc. )

everything about xbox live is overpriced. odst. just gonna borrow it now. not even rent

Honestly, I think MS has killed their credibility in Japan. Any claims over exclusive titles will fall on deaf ears simply after the Star Ocean 4/Tales of Vesperia debacle currently still a thorn in the sides of many suckered buyers. Whatever they do in Japan, will only have any major impacts in America/Europe, I highly doubt they're going to get any momentum going in the asian territories. Not anymore.

@PS3fears360
I think you're avoiding games being downscaled to fit a pathetic 10 gigs to work with, it's nearly 2010 come on. Do you know how incredible MW2 could be if it had 50gigs to work with?!?
I doubt you do, your a fanboy, now move on.
FLP_B01
they'll only get attention if Bill Gates or whoever owns M$ now. . .

From what i heard is that Xbox has suffer to fin its own identity in the japanese market. Since the launch of the original xbox most of japan market have seen this system as a ripoff or lower level for the playstation. Thought that mentally is wrong in many ways, it seems that you can blame the xbox marketing department for. Also as a lot of people have mention american companies have a really hard time to acquire some market share in Japan. Hopefully Xbox can pull something out. The natal project might work since Japanese market is tech trendy, and this "new" technology might be what M$ needs. Also xbox need some games that will attract the japanese gamer. Overall, it seems to be a rough road for the xbox I guess we have to wait and see to know what will xbox do this year.
PS: what is with all this fanboy war. Really entertaining but never understood why all this talking crap about the competitors console. Also it is me or the wii seems to not have fanboys?

Maybe Mistwalker will stop sitting with the thumbs up their asses and announce something.
Mr_Eko_73
Someone has to be last. Last I checked Cadillacs weren't to big over there either.
An American company is just not going to do all that well in the Nippon Market- its just that simple. As long as you don't lose money-you're doing alright.

Japan is xenophobic
How are North American car sales doing there....None
How is the iphone doing...dead on arrival.
Japan ps3s...3 million plus
360 1 million plus
North America...ps3s...9million plus
360s...18 million plus
The difference, in NA ppl love Lexus, Infinity, Acura, and have tons of Japanese electronics. When sony doesn't sell...there is something wrong
