If you asked me to ballpark how many bugs have been found by World of Warcraft quality assurance testers, I actually wouldn’t even have a guess. Mainly, because you never really hear about how many bugs a game has, so I have no frame of reference. Well, thanks to Blizzard’s presentation at the Austin Game Developers Conference, we now have that frame of reference, and it’s a rather stunning one.
According to Blizzard, its WoW bug database currently contains 179,184 entries! That includes all of the bugs that have addressed as well as those that still need fixing.
Now, while this number is staggering, it isn’t all that surprising when you consider the scale and scope of WoW, and the sheer volume of content contained therein. However, the fact that there could be that many issues still present this many years after it was released is cause for discussion, even though it clearly hasn't had any impact on the game's popularity.
I mean, even if you assume that half of the bugs on that list have been fixed, that’s still leaves a hefty number. This leads me to believe that these bugs are extremely rare, been mostly addressed, or a whole mess of WoW players have been willfully overlooking a mess of issues for the sake of their beloved RPG.
What are some of the biggest bugs you’ve come across while playing WoW? Does this number surprise you?
