Underwater shooter Bioshock 2 has a release date: February 9th, 2010.
The game, published by Take 2, takes place a decade after Bioshock, but features the same ramshackle, underwater city of Rapture. In the single-player campaign, players step into the boots of the most iconic denizen of Rapture, the Big Daddy, and search for a nere-do-well who is capturing little girls from the surface of the earth and bringing them deep under the sea.
Unlike the first game, Bioshock 2 features multiplayer, with gamers assuming the role of a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions. The multiplayer takes place during the fall of Rapture, so it'll be interesting to check out the design contrasts between single and multi-player.
That release date is a little weird, eh? Seriously, February 9th? I gotta wonder if it's a case of Bioshock 2 not being finished by the holiday season, or a case of Take 2 releasing the game a little late in the hope of capitalizing on a dearth of games coming out around that time... and kids' Christmas money and new game consoles!
In Hollywood, a sure sign of a terrible movie is a February or March release date. Obviously the same logic doesn't apply to gaming, but it got me thinking: In your mind, is there a time of year when bad games tend to come out? If so, when is it?

I can't wait.

I'd say bad games used to come out between mid-December to January (if it was good, why wouldn't it come out before the holiday rush), April, and mid to late summer (while people are vacationing, mid-June until Madden). Today, these conventions are nearly out the window. We're getting good games nearly every month, except right after Christmas until late January (MAG) and mid-summer (which kinda went out the window when MGS4 released). If developers put out a good game, people will buy it, no matter when it's released (i.e., SSBB and Killzone in February, InFamous in May, Batman: AA in mid-August)

I am worried about this game. Too many devs and delays.

The beginning of next year is going to be pretty crowded.

I can't wait for this game. But correct me if I'm worng, but wasn't February last time, a great month of video games: Street Fighter 4, Killzone. As well as March having a good month of gaming. I feel summer is the worst time of gaming. This year, there was nothing, and last year was only Battlefield Bad Company.

Best news ive heard all summer!

I don't think there is a time of year when bad games come out. I think it's due to games not having an annual awards event that everybody is trying to base their releases on like the film industry does with the Academy Awards. Holidays are probably the most influential on release dates and production schedules.
We as gamers are better off for it. We get great games almost year-round now, especially as more and more publishers are realizing that you can release a game anytime and as long as it's a great game and gets at least a LITTLE marketing behind it, it will still sell.

I read in GameInformer that they asked Ken Levine to help them finish the game and he flat out said no, that same article said that there is now 5 or 6 teams working on finishing the game. It sounds like this game might be in a little trouble, I'll be waiting for reviews before I get this game.

I really loved the first one... don't let me down Take 2
