If you're planning on buying someone the deluxe Beatles: Rock Band kit with the Ringo Drums and the Paul McCartney bass, you'd better hurry up and get one. According to Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman, the bundles are selling out quick, in spite of their fairly exorbitant price.
“The special limited edition set that we have priced at $249, with the Ringo drums, is selling really fast," Dauman said in an investor conference call. "It looks like we'll be selling out of that in November, so if any of you are interested in buying that you'd better hurry up," he added.
As for overall sales, Dauman is very, very happy, saying that The Beatles: Rock Band has leveraged "mainstream" interest in the game (and The Beatles) and is selling well across all platforms.
“It's been terrific," he said. "The first week we've sold about 25% of our inventory, and we've had tremendous excitement around this game. The reviews have been incredible... It really is a work of art. The game delivers in all respects and we think it's going to have legs,” Dauman said.
Personally, I'm relieved. I'm cynical by nature, so my fanboyism extends to only five things: Werner Herzog, Slick Rick, Joust, Cheerwine soda and The Beatles, so I'm really happy this game isn't tanking. It would have been personally tragic and heartbreaking if the marketplace was like, "Meh. I'd rather play Guitar Hero: My Chemical Romance."
On an unrelated note: I hope a new version of Joust comes out where Werner Herzog and Slick Rick battle each other on space ostriches for a case of Cheerwine... But seriously, were you worried that The Beatles: Rock Band would disappoint in the sales department? Does the interest in such an ancient band surprise you at all?

Cheerwine
Thanks for including Cheerwine in your Top 5! Like the Beatles it is a one-of-a-kind..........

I'm far too poor for that price tag but I did buy the game by itself. I wish I could have gotten the drums. My old GHWT kit is so crappy.

So much for that whole "recession" thing. If people can afford $250 for another box of plastic instruments then I think we are doing just fine.

I'm not surprised about the game itself doing well.. but I am surprised about the expensive a$$ bundle. I mean.. I thought the $180 bundles were up there.. but $249? Damn.. **edit**

I hope Activision takes a note from this. It doesn't matter what songs you have. It's all about the presentation and mostly about the fun-factor.
I'm glad the Beatles is doing great. I've always listened to them since I first stood up on my own two legs

If you don't like The Beatles: Rock Band, then you obviously don't like music or video games. I think Skillz89 should buy some Hooked on Phonics material rather than worrying about buying anymore Rock Band games.

I've been having a blast playing this game. I wasn't sure how it would sell but I'm glad it doing well.

The Ringo drums are so awesome.

If there is a pink floyd music a pray to god that it isnt guitar hero. guitar hero kind sucks. i prefer rock band over that any day. beatles rock band kicks ass too. so much fun but there should have been more songs.

Meh Beatles Rock Band suck! If they come out with a Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin i might consider getting Rock Band. But 4 now i'm gonna stick with Uncharted 2 and soon 2 be Modern Warfare 2!!!

I'm glad they seem to be enjoying healthy sales. I am curious whether this release will move any systems, and what the average age of the consumer will be. Will this title entice non-gamer baby boomers to dabble?

I'm happy that it's selling so well. I always prefered the way Harmonix did it's games over activision. I hope then that say if Pink Floyd wants to do a Band focused game they will chose Harmonix.

I'm not surprised that the game is doing well, but I was surprised that so many analysts didn't expect sales to be this good. Perhaps they only perceived the expectation that every household with a Wii, 360, or PS3 would be buying it. Of course that's not going to happen, but the game does of a unique collection of music (for the rhythm/music based genre of games anyway) with a polished presentation.
The "high" sales of the SE are difficult to qualify as being big since some people were going to buy this version so long as the price was <$350. They sold 25% in the first week; 25% out of how many? Did Viacom ever say just how many SE sets they made? I would assume that they used pre-orders to help gauge interest.

I had the money for the SE bundle, but Werner Herzog stole it from me, gave it to Slick Rick, who spent it all on Cheerwine and old copies of Joust.

I'm not surprised the game itself is selling well, but I am shocked the bundle is selling so well. I love rock band, and even I thought the SE bundle was overpriced.
