Welcome to "Morning Hangover" -- an excellent way to start your day with the crew at TheFeed...no matter what you're recovering from. Every morning you'll hear musings from two of TheFeed's editors and have the chance to share your thoughts on what's going on in the gaming world. So buckle up, break the Internets, and keep reading!

Sony Motion Control

Patrick Klepek: At Tokyo Game Show, it's widely believed that Sony will be releasing concrete details about its motion controller that was announced at E3 2009. A number of developers have expressed interest in it, especially because it might allow them to create games for the Wii and PlayStation 3 simultaneously (or at least open the door to proper ports).

What do you want to see from Sony's controller? Are you already tired of the motion control revolution? Scratch that. It doesn't even matter if you're tired of it because it isn't going anyway. Motion control is just getting started. It's only going to get bigger from here.

Raymond Padilla: Yesterday, I wrote about Microsoft's upcoming 802.11n adapter for Xbox 360. Considering that the original 802.11b/g adapter carries a ridiculous price of $100, I wondered how much the new model would cost. (I'm guessing it'll probably be $100, while the older model's price is slashed...but that's not really the point. The point is...) First-party console-accessories often have huge markups to help make up for the money lost on consoles themselves. While it's easy to hide these markups in controllers or memory cards, it's harder to do it with things like wireless adapters and hard drives -- parts that have PC equivalents. There are a lot of educated customers out there that know it's ridiculous to charge $100 for a wireless adapter or $150 for a 120GB hard drive. Microsoft gets away with it by wrapping inexpensive PC parts in proprietary enclosures. It's a little evil and a little silly, but as long as people keep buying these horribly overpriced accessories, Microsoft will keep serving them up.

How do you feel about these expensive Xbox 360 peripherals? Have you bought either the hard drive or the wireless adapter? Knowing that the price is inflated, why did you "play ball" and encourage the practice?

Just go on Ebay and buy the 120GB hard drive there. You can pick one up for about $66-$67 shipping included. That's what I'm going to do soon. Still looking for a cheap alternative to the wireless adaptor as I'm not paying $100 for that thing.

I do it because what other choice do I have? Is there another company offering the samethings at lower prices? Nope, I think not.....that's why I do it!

I think M$ should offer what the PS3 does and give the option to hook up an external hard drive to back up data. With the start of Digital Media in gaming we are going to need to have access to the larger hard drives. My friend has a Trilobite external on his PS3 for holding downloaded game movies and music.

As far as motion control I have high hopes but in reality I don't know if we are going to see the FPS and RPG style combat experience that we see with a normal controller in this console generation.

I don't know why xbots are complaining and whining about. I mean even the console is over price! Hardware failure should, no wifi and among other things should warrant that it is over price. Anyways I don't care if any of there xbots stuff are over price because I don't have an xbox and I don't want one either.

    @Raymond

Nice to see that someone in the video game media is willing to expose Microsoft's price gouging tactics with their peripherals. You didn't even mention their wireless headset (which is not blue tooth) that runs $60, or the fact that they sell the USB recharge pack for their controllers separate and if you buy the "pack" it runs $65!

I am ashamed to say that I bought the stupid Xbox Wi Fi adapter for the $100 rip off price. I didn't have a choice; I wanted to play some Gears of War online and my video game room is nowhere near my internet jacks in my house. I need a Wi Fi connection so I buckled. I was so pissed when I laid that benjamin down for what should be a $10 part. Aaaaarrrrggghh...

Meanwhile my PS3 peripherals and cost of operation is so much cheaper. Every peripheral across the board is cheaper on PS3, or it's free (Wi Fi, internet access, etc). I upgraded my PS3 hard drive to a 320gb for $72!!!

And don't even get me started on dumping money into my Xbox for repairs...

With the exsiting PS3 controller showing no signs of being updated I am hoping that their motion controller works well. Then maybe with some decent games to support it I will consider buying a PS3.

MS is out of their minds on pricing for support hardware. fortunately wired is a better way to go than wi-fi and I have an Elite with a big hard drive. On that I vote with my wallet and don't purchase those items.

Just skimming through these posts... you have to buy specific proprietery HD for the X-Box?
I just installed a 500GB HD in my PS3 that I bought for $80. it's working great and have more memory than I know what to do with right now compared to my old 60GB HD. PS3 uses a standard 2.5" laptop HD.

As far as motion sensing technology, I hope the games for the real next gen machines (PS3 & 360) are a lot better than the Wii games. My mom has a Wii that I have played on. The games are fun for a bit, but get boring fast.

The motion control revolution? I hope Sony learns from nintendo and just make sure that we can chose to ignore it. (judging by how Sony's devs are treating it looks like i have nothing to worry on that front). I think though Sony would love Wii devs to port their crap over to the PS3. Think of it this way, more people buy the system cause they think it offers a lot of family games, more people would actually use their system instead of the Wii cause once they come to their senses and realize that motion controls are stupid, (you have to admit this a lot of people regret buying their Wii after a month or so), they have much better choices to chose from. The best part is though that those devs can make those crappy games downloadable instead of taking up shelf space that the good games take up. Downloadable means cheaper and less risk. I think this is a good thing. I'm not gonna buy any of those games but as long as some people have a choice to play Lumberjack Party? and Uncharted why not.

As for Microsoft Robbing 360 owners blind it's nothing new. Like I have said, the beauty of the PS3 is that I can buy a 500 gig HDD for about $20 less than 360 owners pay for a 120 gig HDD.

    Time for my morning rant:

I was looking forward to Raiden IV. I read the review before I went and bought it. My purchasing this game was a foregone ocnclusion. It is only $40 brand new. I love those old school quarter munching shooters. At the end of the review I noticed a very BIG exclusion from the game. For the $40 retail I only get to use one of the planes. I have to pay the publisher a fee via xbox live in order to unlock the other two. The other two planes aren't a package either. Two separate transactions. After confirming what the review said, I have decided not to buy the game.

Point: DLC is a great way to deliver new content, however it is horribly overpriced. Then you get companies like Namco and UFO (Raiden IV) who want to sell you codes to unlock stuff already on your game disc. That isn't new content. That is content locked out and sold to the consumer. This is the biggest crock of all DLC. You are being charged for something that didn't take any coding beyond the initial development or port, no fee associated with putting it on live (if there is one), and it's just greedy.

The DLC ripoff that is emerging is much more blatantly gouging the consumer than overpriced accessories. Though they are too expensive as well.

im not big on motion controls, but i think MS has the most open idea. ur not stuck with a motion controller so if the game requires you to hold something you can pretty much just grab something in the room to use or not use anything at all. u also have the option of using both hand, say, if ur playing a sword fighting game and u have duel swords.....get my point

Those M$ HDD and wi-fi adapter prices are highway robbery. How does M$ get away with such a rip off? The should be ashamed of themselves. Only uneducated fools and Xbots would fall for those prices.

I bought the 120G HD, but we got an Arcade system for free and had to pick up a HD drive to go with it. So I justified the ridiculous cost off as "buying the console."

I can't think of a single Wii game I would want to see ported to the PS3. I would sincerely hope that even good games like Boom Blox are built from the ground up to take advantage of the power the PS3 has to offer.

@Ray - I think you do have a point. Price gouging hurts and it is ridiculous that they can get away with it. unfortunately when that is the only way to upgrade your hard drive that's what you have to buy. Sony started something we have never seen in the industry before with the PS3. the option of your own HDD. I would hope MS realizes this in future iterations. It distracts from potential Xbox buyers.

However on the wireless issue you are not forced to buy the MS version. I used to have a linksys gaming router that I used when my console was not hardwired and no one should be forced to spend $100 on that. be smart shoppers gamers

I got a "starter kit" with the 60GB HDD, a headset, and a 3 month card as a gift. I like th bigger HDD because installing the games makes alot less noise from the box and I feel safer about the heat thing.

The motion control thing... I'm old skool. Plus I think it's gonna be YEARS before they really make it something totally worth while. I also agree with Thundercracker... that picture needs to go the way of the Dreamcast.

I bought the wireless adapter, (over eBay of course for only $60, which is still pretty high) and really want a bigger hard drive but just can't put up the large amount of money for so little storage. I feel like I'd feel like I were being robbed if I did so.
